About Us

PERTS uses research-based techniques to raise students' motivation and achievement. Our programs have improved grades and reduced the racial achievement gap at multiple schools. They are designed to change how students think about school in ways that enhance their motivation and achievement.

Background

Studies by Stanford Professors Carol Dweck, Geoffrey Cohen, and Greg Walton show that short psychological interventions can raise students' motivation and reduce group-based achievement gaps. Because of limited resources, however, few schools could benefit from these interventions.

Mission

We started PERTS to make the latest research-based behavioral interventions accessible to all schools. We continue to test our programs to better understand when, how, and for whom they are most effective.
