Summary

The Game Engineer develops engaging learning games for KnowBe4's customer base in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The role combines game design and software engineering to create educational gaming experiences that enhance cybersecurity awareness training.

Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and rapidly prototype learning games while gathering and implementing user feedback. Troubleshoot technical issues, collaborate with cross-functional teams on requirements, and maintain documentation on game development guidelines.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency with game engines (Unity, Unreal, Phaser, Construct, GDevelop, Roblox), JavaScript frameworks (Svelte, Vue.js, React), and scripting languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, Python). Strong communication skills, experience with Git, CLI, AWS, and modern web standards (HTML5, CSS3).
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience required. Minimum 3 years of game and/or software engineering experience with demonstrated technical expertise in game design and front-end application development.
Location: São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil
Compensation: Estimated: 120,000 – 180,000 BRL/year based on game engineer role, 3+ years experience, and São Paulo tech market rates

The Game Engineer is responsible for developing new and exciting learning games for KnowBe4’s customers, alongside other game designers and engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop learning games
  • Rapidly prototype and refine games based on user experience feedback
  • Troubleshoot bugs/issues as they are reported
  • Collaborate with Courseware Labs, Instructional Design, and other Publisher teams to establish and refine technical requirements
  • Maintain documentation on game development guidelines alongside Courseware QA team for entire sector
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest game development technologies and frameworks, evaluating new options as they appear and continually refining skillset
  • Strong preferences to candidates who have experience with Construct Roblox and or Unity game engines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science or Software Engineering or comparable work experience required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a game and/or software engineer
  • Technical experience designing games
  • Experience with CLI and Git
  • Experience with AWS for game testing purposes
  • Experience developing front-end application scripts
  • Strong understanding of Unity, Unreal, Phaser, Construct, GDevelop and Roblox
  • Strong with JavaScript frameworks such as Svelte, VueJS, and React
  • Built applications with current and forward-facing web standards like CSS3 and HTML5
  • Communication skills, verbal & written
  • Knowledge of Scripting Languages (such as javascript, typescript, ruby, or python)
