JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to Director of the Office of Online Education, the Instructional Designer implements specialized responsibilities focused on online course design, collaborates with faculty and staff on effective instructional delivery methods to support active learning and engagement, course deployment, and aligning content with Quality Matters Standards, US Department of Education standards for online education, as well as programmatic and course competencies. This role applies research-based learning theories and innovative instructional design principles to create engaging, learner-centered educational experiences.
The Instructional Designer utilizes instructional design models and best practices to cultivate collaborative relationships with faculty and subject matter experts. This ensures the development of high-quality learning experiences tailored for both matriculating and
non-matriculating learners, emphasizing competency-based instruction integrated with educational technologies. Additionally, the position involves spearheading the development of KYSU Online Courses and partnering with the KSU Land Grant
Program to manage the Canvas LMS (Learning Management System) Catalog short courses for non-matriculating or non-degree seeking learners.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Online Education to ensure the successful implementation of online programs and courses.
- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and revise engaging and effective online courses.
- Apply pedagogical theories, instructional design models, and best practices to create learner-centered educational experiences.
- Instructional designers will meet US Department of Education and Quality Matters Standards, Association of College and University of Education, and institutional guidelines for instructional design, accessibility, and educational effectiveness.
- Incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure courses are accessible and inclusive for all students.
- Provide expertise to align instructional practices with institutional goals and promote continuous improvement.
- Facilitate the development and management of Canvas LMS Catalog short courses.
- Ensure effective setup, deployment, and maintenance of all online courses, collaborating with the KSU Land Grant Program as needed.
- Integrate multimedia and interactive elements into course design to enhance engagement and learning outcomes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Instructional Designer should have the ability to manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met.
- Provide expertise and guidance on instructional design methodologies to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
- Implement effective instructional delivery methods tailored to diverse learner needs, including matriculating and non-matriculating students.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Instructional Design, bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 3-5 years of related experience in developing online programs.
- The preferred candidate will have experience with learning management systems.
