Position Purpose:
Work with the Director/Executive Content Developer and Senior/Supervising Content Developer to contribute to the development phases of revisions to existing products in both Core and Supplemental Markets, as determined by market need or senior leadership. Revisions could include, but are not limited to, customer-identified incorrect or problematic content, known reprint corrections, outdated content and new calls for adoptions or RFPs where content must be adjusted to fit requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As needed, understand legacy products and envision how and when to update them or build off/upsell from them.
- Follow and meet editorial project schedules established and maintained by the Project Management team, and help troubleshoot scheduling, resource and budget issues as needed.
- Help develop and maintain vendor guidelines and best-practice checklists and documentation, inclusive of metadata tagging where needed
- Coordinate with editors, vendors and freelance writers in developing content and ensure that content guidelines are observed
- Review, edit, and approve manuscript and production stages, working directly with copyeditors, graphic designers, and photo researchers
- Incorporate feedback as requested (based on defined review stages) from Professional Development, Sales and Marketing, Editorial management and outside reviewers and SMEs/consultants
- Help develop and maintain writing and editing guidelines
- Attend regularly scheduled status meetings with Director, Legacy Content to report on workflow and content issues
- Create or update Product Library documentation and product metadata as requested
- Complete Product Data Management entry based on defined workflow milestones
- Read professional journals to increase market and pedagogical knowledge
- Attend department and weekly product status meetings
- Complete time tracking documentation on a weekly basis
- Aid in the QA of new digital products
Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:
- Fluent in Spanish, both written & spoken
- 5+ years of experience developing literacy materials for an educational publisher
- B.A. in English, education, or a related field (M.A. a plus)
- Superior writing, editing and project management skills
- Current knowledge of language, literacy and educational standards, expectations and requirements
- Intermediate-Advanced proficiency, MS Office
- Basic proficiency, Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
- Comfortable juggling several projects concurrently
- Able to work collaboratively with other departments (e.g., design and marketing)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Teaching experience is a plus
- Knowledge of Foundational Skills Development and Phonics is a plus
