We are seeking a Senior Technical Manager to lead our data platform and operations team through a major transformation. This is a unique opportunity to drive the evolution of our large-scale data infrastructure, overseeing both daily operations and long-term strategic shifts. You will play a key role in transitioning away from legacy platforms, modernizing our data ecosystem, and optimizing Hadoop and Snowflake operations while managing and mentoring a team of experienced engineers.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead and manage a team of senior data platform engineers, providing mentorship, performance management, and career development.
- Oversee operational excellence in data platform management, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of Snowflake, Kafka, and on-prem big data environments.
- Drive the strategic transition from Hadoop/HBase to a new data platform by defining roadmaps, collaborating with leadership, and guiding development teams through application migrations.
- Optimize and expand Snowflake usage across the organization, ensuring best practices in cost management, security, performance tuning, and governance.
- Partner with software engineering and data teams to align on new data architectures and migration strategies.
- Establish and enforce operational standards, automation, and monitoring to improve system reliability and efficiency.
- Advocate for and implement best practices in data governance, security, and compliance.
What You Bring:
- Proven experience managing and leading a technical team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Strong expertise in Snowflake administration, operations, and optimization at enterprise scale.
- Deep understanding of distributed data architectures, large-scale data storage, and data processing frameworks.
- Experience leading teams through major data platform transitions and application migrations.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on operational execution.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills to drive change across engineering teams.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience leading teams through Hadoop/HBase decommissioning.
- Hands-on knowledge of Kafka, Spark, and enterprise-scale data pipelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in managing and architecting infrastructure software components and/or data platform technologies.
- Previous experience in infrastructure design and support of Linux systems, preferably with Hadoop and/or database technologies.
- 5+ years of management experience, including managing senior administrators, developers, and architects.
- Prior experience managing multi-petabyte data environments in hybrid or on-prem settings.
- Broad exposure to various computer concepts, machine architecture, and analysis and design approaches.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build consensus across organizational boundaries.
- Experience with Agile Software Development methodologies.
- Experience in operational management of enterprise production systems.
