Position Purpose:

Work with the Senior Content Creation staff to manage the development of Core and supplemental products, from concept through publication. Responsible for writing, editing, and revising existing products in both Core and Supplemental Markets, as determined by market need or senior leadership. Market need could include, but is not limited to, customer-identified incorrect or problematic content, known reprint corrections, outdated content and new calls for adoptions or RFP where content must be adjusted to fit requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help ensure the successful development of all assigned materials in both print and in digital formats.
  • Coordinate with content developers as well as authors, vendors and freelance writers in creating content to ensure that project goals and content guidelines are observed.
  • Request and review vendor and writer samples and provide vendor feedback as necessary to ensure quality control.
  • Help establish and maintain writer’s guidelines and approaches  in support of effective instruction for new core development and for supplemental or ancillary programs as assigned, working with senior leadership and established author(s). Oversee portions of implementation of approach across all grades, K-6.
  • Write, review, edit and approve manuscript, book maps, and production stages, working directly with content developers, assistant content developers, copyeditors, graphic designers, and photo researchers through all stages of content development in both print and digital formats.
  • Help maintain and reduce customer-service complaint tickets.
  • Establish QA protocols for print and digital to check for proper implementation of changes.
  • Track and manage reprint processes for multiple products across the year
  • Communicate with Sales & Marketing to support the development of sales support tools
  • Help develop and manage editorial project schedules along with the Project Management team, troubleshoot scheduling, resource and budget issues.
  • Aid in the QA of new digital products
  • Train, support and uplift team members in subject matter expertise in order to grow them professionally and to ensure that best-practices are always infused into our products.
  • Assist in the creation of budgets for new projects and managing vendors to stay within budgetary requirements.
  • Attend regularly scheduled status meetings to report on workflow and content issues.
  • Consult with all project team members.
  • Create or update Product Library documentation.
  • Communicate with Sales & Marketing to support the development of sales support tools.
  • Complete Product Data Management entry based on defined workflow milestones.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate editorial with production schedules and needs in order to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Support Sales and Marketing by reviewing pullouts, space ads, pre-pub flyers, and other sales support tools for accuracy and completeness.
  • Read professional journals to increase market and pedagogical knowledge.
  • Complete time tracking documentation on a weekly basis.

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience

  • 7-10 years of managerial experience in developing materials for an educational publisher
  • University/College degree in Education or related field
  • Superior writing, editing and project management skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of language, literacy and content issues
  • Experience in both print and digital publishing processes
  • Intermediate-Advanced proficiency, MS Office
  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe. InCopy) is preferred
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Flexible in adjusting to changing needs and schedules
  • Able to work collaboratively with other departments (e.g., design and marketing)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

 

Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000

*The base salary range represents the low and high end of the expected salary range for the position. The base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
