ABOUT THE ROLE  

Publicist will handle all aspects of publicity/media outreach, and event outreach for Oxford University Press’s Academic trade catalogue titles. Will conceive of and execute national/regional/local publicity strategies for assigned projects. Will work directly with authors and media to secure publicity coverage. Will pitch and coordinate author speaking events when appropriate. Will assist publicity team with limited administrative duties, such as managing publicity email inbox, arranging team-wide pitching of seasonal catalogs, and books to trade outlets.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Manage book/ebook campaigns from beginning to end, including arranging radio, podcasts, and television interviews, pitching for book reviews, opinion essays, and Q&As, and feature articles both in print and online.
• Communicate with authors, editorial and marketing staff about publicity achieved and report on individual titles at marketing meetings.
• Identify the best and most appropriate audience for assigned titles and compile media lists accordingly, pitching books and authors to all appropriate venues.
• Keep track of campaign results and communicate accordingly to manager and other stakeholders
• Pitch seasonal catalog list to key media (ie. In person or online media appointments).
• Maintain and foster media contacts through research and in person meetings.
• Research and write press releases, pitch letters, and other publicity materials.
• Work with the Manager to plan and map publicity campaigns.
• Work with Manager to manage individual campaign budgets.
• Support team with some collaborative teamwork, such as checking publicity inbox, and updating media lists

 

 

ABOUT YOU

  • 3 years publicity or related experience required.
  • Candidate must be creative and have an enthusiastic and energetic approach to mining publicity opportunities.
  • A familiarity with key print and digital media outlets and contacts is required.
  • Must be at ease with pitching to media, dealing with authors, and juggling several projects at once.
  • Excellent writing skills required.
  • A familiarity with the publishing industry preferred but not required.

Position Location: This role can be done in a hybrid environment in Cary, NC (2 times a week in office) or New York City, NY. The role can also be done remotely in the United States.   

GJC Level: I4 (for internal purposes only)   

Salary: $55,158 - $57,000 dependent on skills and experience

This role is part of the OUP USA News Guild Bargaining Unit.
