The role of the Military Event Coordinator (Contractor)
Upwards is seeking a passionate military affiliated person/spouse/family member to help conduct briefs, attend events and coordinate and host local events for military families with children aged 0-12 over the course of the next 2-3 months, with possibility to extend.
They will be supported by our Military Events Marketing Manager and will work together to share the covered care program that is available to qualifying service members. This contract role is perfect for those who love connecting with people and are eager to support their local community. Above all else, we are looking for someone who is warm, inviting and genuine in their support for this program.
In this role, you will:
- Plan, coordinate, and host events designed for families with young children.
- Present information about Upwards’ childcare program at events. Though no professional experience with events or public speaking is required, we want involved community members who are striving to support their community.
- Leverage strong networking skills to engage families and increase program awareness.
- Use personal experiences as a military spouse or family member to foster meaningful community connections.
- Attend military-affiliated events such as weekend briefings, Yellow Ribbon ceremonies, and family days.
- Work closely with Upwards’ Event Marketing Manager to identify and attend relevant events in their state, including those sourced through Upwards leads.
- Engage with event attendees to discuss Upwards’ childcare services, including how to access covered care, the registration process, and ways to spread the word to other service members.
- Track and report key event metrics, including estimated soldier attendance, the number of soldiers with children and qualified sign-ups based on event size and type.
You'll excel at this role if you have:
- Ability to plan and execute events, manage schedules, coordinate logistics, and ensure smooth event operations. Must be comfortable handling multiple tasks, working under pressure, and adapting to last-minute changes.
- Confidence in speaking to groups of various sizes, from intimate gatherings to large military briefings. Strong ability to clearly present information, engage an audience, and answer questions effectively
- Strong organizational skills to oversee event planning from start to finish, including budgeting, timeline management, stakeholder communication, and ensuring event goals and sign ups are met.
Requirements:
- Must reside in one of the following states: AR, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, KS, LA, MA, MD, MN, MO, NH, NM, OH, OR, VA, VT, WA, WI.
- Must be willing to travel, including day or weekend trips.
- Must be available to work weekends as needed.
- Must have a personal laptop and reliable internet connection for work use.
- Must be flexible with their working hours to accommodate the events and engagement opportunities.
Preferences:
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is a plus for certain states, but not required.
- Reside within 50 miles of a military base (strongly preferred).

Role Details:
Salary Range: $30 per hour
Term: ~2 to 3 Months (with possibility of extension) and based on events in residing/surrounding states.
