POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Director of Finance will oversee the financial systems, processes, and internal controls to support strategic objectives. The Senior Director is responsible for oversight, including, but not limited to, budgeting, auditing, accounting, financial reporting, investment and cash flow oversight, financial policies and procedures, insurance coverage and compliance, and asset reporting.
As a senior leadership team member, the Senior Director of Finance will also be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives. The Senior Director will work closely with the senior leadership team and act as the liaison to the board of directors' finance committee, working closely with the committee to strengthen ISTE+ASCD's financial position and other items as required. The Senior Director will continually evaluate best industry practices compared to internal systems and needed resources, with an eye toward future needs and budget realities. This position will have direct management responsibility for a small internal team and oversee the outsourced accounting function for ISTE+ASCD.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Strategy
- Serve as a member of the organization's senior leadership team and participate in organization-wide strategy-setting, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Operate as a key support and thought partner on all financial matters.
- Manage all aspects of our outsourced finance and accounting functions and team and vendor relationships.
- Oversight of the organization's auditors, bankers, and advisors on financial and investment matters.
- Partner with the Chief People and Diversity Officer and team to ensure relevant fiscal governance policies, practices, and procedures are in place, kept current, and evenly applied.
- As needed, provide financial training for staff, fostering a workplace culture where respect and a diversity of views flourish.
Finance Administration
- Develop and maintain financial accounting, revenue and expense forecasting, business planning, and reporting models.
- Prepare and report on operating budgets and cash flow projections to the Executive team, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Responsible for all finance and accounting policies and policy updates.
- Oversee cash flow and all reconciliations, including bank, benefits, payroll, and miscellaneous accounts.
- Actively manage all daily accounting and financial operations, including payroll reconciliation and ensuring journal entries are posted in a timely manner.
- Set financial targets to analyze business performance and risks, and direct the accounting procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and internal controls.
- Ensures timely and accurate budget reports for department heads and budget owners.
- Prepares financial reporting for grant activities.
- Oversee programs and statutory audits.
- Oversee all tax and charitable returns, filings, and related reports.
- Oversee local, state, and federal governance, insurance, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure organization-wide compliance with funding agreements' financial aspects and internal financial and accounting policies.
- Partner with budget owners on the development and implementation of new business models.
- Other special projects as assigned.
PRIORITY WILL BE PROVIDED TO CANDIDATES LIVING IN THE DC METRO AREA (MD, DC, or Northern VA); you will be REQUIRED to come into the Arlington, VA office one day per week.
Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $155,000.00
