Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 2 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement's Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This position will be located in Portland, Oregon. This is a limited duration appointment expected to last approximately 1 year from the appointment begin date.
Due to funding, OSU will not sponsor immigration work authorization for this position (e.g. H-1B, etc.).
This Education Program Assistant 2 (EPA2) position is part of the SNAP -ED Native Indigenous program serving Multnomah, Clackamas, Columbia and Washington County and is based at the OSU Extension office in Portland, Oregon. This position is with the Extension Family and Community Health ( FCH ) program, affiliated with OSU College of Health.
The EPA2 will:
- offer programs that promote healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles to individuals and families;
- develop programs and collaborative community partnerships independently. Initiate program changes with the input of state and county program coordinators;
- work with community partners like schools, food banks and pantries, and other non-profit organizations. This will require driving/travel to various county sites to deliver programming.
- work with the SNAP-Ed Indigenous Peoples work group team to expand outreach and connection to the Native American/Alaska Native Indigenous populations in the Metro Area.
- provide lead work to volunteers who have various identities, cultural backgrounds, and communication styles and expectations; and
- be part of FCH/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education (SNAP-Ed) Program team, supervised by the FCH/SNAP-Ed unit managing faculty.
This EPA2 assists the managing faculty with designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.

Extension FCH is affiliated with the College of Health. FCH and the College of Health align toward a common vision of lifelong health and well-being for individuals, families and communities in Oregon. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education ( SNAP -Ed) is an FCH program and promotes healthy food choices and increased physical activity through direct education; social marketing; and policy, systems, and environmental change. The Indigenous Peoples workgroup, in the SNAP -Ed program focuses on promoting culturally relevant healthy food choices, food preparation and food preservation techniques that align with and support Indigenous cultures. SNAP -Ed funding is provided by USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program through a contract with the Oregon Department of Health Services. Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Associate's Degree and three years of work experience (paid or volunteer) supporting community programs that serve children, youth or adults OR Bachelor's Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) one year of which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions OR Five years experience in a field related to the duties of the position AND a high school diploma or equivalent. AND Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences. Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications.

- Lived, professional and/or volunteer experience working with Native American/Alaska Native Indigenous Tribes and/or Native American /Alaska Native serving organization.
- Ability to successfully engage a broad and diverse population with different backgrounds and life experiences in a culturally responsible manner.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work as a collaborative member of a team.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Type:
Access to a vehicle is necessary as duties will require driving/travel to various sites in counties served to deliver non-credit programs and transporting curriculum materials. Flexibility to perform work in a variety of office and work settings. Evenings and weekends may be required based on programming needs, coordinating with supervisor to adapt work schedule to address community programming needs.
