We are seeking an experienced Proposal Writer to create and edit compelling proposals and complex documents with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance and customer focus while collaborating with proposal teams.
Responsibilities: The Proposal Writer will develop persuasive proposals, edit for voice and messaging, interview experts for content, maintain version control, and track graphics for customization.
Skills: Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word are required.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in proposal or business writing are preferred.
Location: The job is located in the United States with no specified travel requirements.
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation ranges for this position are between $60,000 - $85,000.
The Proposal Writer is responsible for writing, editing, and formatting concise, compliant, and compelling proposal responses and other diverse, high-level, and/or complex documents with minimal supervision. Proposal writers analyze RFPs for text requirements, develop and format proposal response text, incorporate edits and participate in proposal development teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create concise, compliant, and customer-focused proposals.
- Develop persuasive and accurate initial drafts for each proposal with compliant responses to each requirement using a database of text options.
- Edit text for voice, messaging, and adherence to the internal style guide.
- Interview experts to create solution text.
- Research and familiarize self with the product and services portfolio.
- Write customized and boilerplate text.
- Ability to listen to conversations and incorporate content and key points into a final proposal.
- Ensure the proper context of each proposal section by coordinating edits with respective contributors.
- Maintain version control at each stage of proposal draft iteration.
- Perform final electronic and hard copy edits of all proposal drafts and versions.
- Format text for production.
- Track proposal graphics for customization.
- Help maintain the proposal text database.
- Communicate with other members of each proposal team to resolve reported problems and obtain additional information.
- Report proposal status to management.
- Participate/contribute to all department meetings and training.
- Assist other writers and provide peer review as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (English, Communications, Education) or equivalent experience in lieu of a formal degree.
- Minimum five years of experience in proposal writing, marketing writing, business writing, or technical writing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with others.
- Ability to write and edit proposals with little supervision.
- Must be able to work as needed to meet tight deadlines and at peak periods.
- Experience working with and interviewing technical and other staff to develop persuasive text.
- Acute attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to set own priorities and escalate issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities.
- Ability to perform independent research to understand writing topics.
- Must be able to follow a proven process, work collaboratively and follow our department's guiding principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word required.
