Alabama State University, invites applications to fil the Director of IT Infrastructure position. The selected candidate will lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of the university's enterprise infrastructure. This senior leadership role is responsible for managing all on-premise and hybrid systems, storage, cloud services, disaster recovery, research computing, and AI infrastructure ? while also providing direct supervision to the Network Engineer and system administration staff. This position is essential to ASU's mission of digital transformation and operational excellence, ensuring that all infrastructure platforms are secure, scalable, and aligned with academic, research, and administrative priorities.
- Duties and Responsibilities:Provide strategic leadership for all on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure platforms, including hyperconverged systems (e.g., VMware, Nutanix), storage, backup, and virtual environments.
- Lead infrastructure architecture planning and lifecycle management to support evolving institutional needs.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies, standards, and documentation for enterprise systems.
- Lead the university's disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) planning efforts, including design, testing, documentation, and team readiness.
- Ensure secure, compliant, and timely recovery capabilities for academic and administrative systems.
- Oversee infrastructure components supporting Generative AI (GenAI) applications, including GPU-hosted LLMs, containerized workloads, and internal agent platforms.
- Manage Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, ensuring context routing, memory persistence, and access control across AI systems.
- Partner with the AI Governance Council to support secure, ethical, and compliant GenAI deployments.
- Provide infrastructure and systems support for research data workflows, including integration with Globus Flows, JupyterHub, and science gateways.
- Collaborate with researchers to support high-performance computing (HPC), secure data movement, and cloud-based research platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Support ASU-led participation in national research infrastructure training and security workshops.
- Supervise the Network Engineer, Systems Administrators, and other infrastructure personnel to ensure cohesive infrastructure operations.
- Conduct performance reviews, staff development plans, and cross-training initiatives.
- Serve as the technical lead for major infrastructure initiatives, vendor negotiations, and service level agreements.
- Collaborate with Information Security, Applications, and Academic Technology teams to align infrastructure and security roadmaps.
- Support CIO and senior leadership with infrastructure reports, risk assessments, and budget planning.
- Contribute to university-wide IT governance, digital transformation strategy, and capital planning.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, 7-10 years of experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, including 3+ years in a leadership role and demonstrated supervisory experience leading technical teams and managing complex projects. Master's degree preferred.
