Savvas Learning Company is seeking a dynamic bilingual specialist and a pedagogical expert in dual language pedagogy. Please read on to explore this excellent opportunity.
The Curriculum Specialist will work in partnership with the Manager of Professional Learning, Account Managers, and sales and services leadership as a content specialist supporting the sales process. This Curriculum Specialist role is specific to bilingual/biliteracy pedagogical expertise to advance the sales and services for Savvas Learning Company programs.
Through key customer touchpoints including exhibits/conferences, workshops, campaigns/caravans, pilots, sales presentations and activation training, the Curriculum Specialist will develop and maintain ongoing relationships with teachers and administrators and any other decision makers at the state, regional, or district level to share expertise in Savvas offerings, pedagogy, and the competitive environment.
The Curriculum Specialist will work with market-based partners to advance Savvas products, services, and solutions in the assigned market, yet may also support as needed on a national basis with the goal to achieve and exceed sales and services objectives.
This position will be required to attend on-site customer meetings in the Pacific territory, which includes California and Hawaii. Candidates must reside in California to be considered.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
- Deliver expert sales presentations for each sales cycle to include key customer touch points:
- Exhibits and conferences
- Workshop delivery
- Campaigns, caravans, customer meetings
- Pilots and pilot support both on-site and virtual
- Sales presentations both on-site and virtual
- Deliver expert professional development training to support new customers, ensuring a top customer experience once a partnership has been reached. Provide workshop delivery beyond introductory training when needed i.e. workshops and conferences. Onsite and virtual delivery required.
- Develop relationships with key K-12 decision makers (state, regional, district) with particular emphasis on dual language, biliteracy education pedagogy.
- Provide customer feedback to services, sales, product, and marketing teams.
- Maintain content and pedagogical expertise while regularly updating knowledge through up-to-date research as available and trends as education markets shift. Use knowledge to better inform sales and services teams to advance the sales and service or Savvas Learning Co. programs.
- Collaborate with Savvas Learning Co. leaders to help create internal training plans to help teams sell and service with the dual language, biliteracy educator in mind. Contribute to presentation creation, training materials, sales and services certifications and implement training to teams.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES
- Creative and strategic thinker in curriculum development and creating instructional materials for language learners. This knowledge will help provide various suggestions to customers when implementing Savvas materials.
- Fluid knowledge of the various types of Dual Language programs- up to date on research based best practices, i.e., dynamic bilingualism, simultaneous bilinguals, literacy based ELD, holistic biliteracy assessment, and paired literacy starting in kindergarten.
- Knowledgeable in the implementation of (linguistic) bridge, cross language strategies and fluent in biliteracy strategies are at the heart of the instruction.
- Translanguaging in the dual language classroom.
- Knowledgeable with the original theory of Bilingualism and the relevance of it in today's classrooms.
- Knowledgeable in Metalinguistic and Oracy strategies.
- Expert in scaffolding language instruction.
- Must be a fluent Spanish Speaker who can directly support lessons and in the classroom with students. (Instruction in the native language is one area that teachers need support and guidance to implement).
- Dual language and biliteracy education expert responsible for contributing to the Savvas Learning Co. sales and services revenue targets in the assigned territory.
- Deep understanding and knowledge of Savvas Learning Company print and platform solutions. Able to become an expert quickly through Savvas certification plans yet be a self-starter and independent thinker.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years minimum experience as a Bilingual self-contained (K-5) classroom teacher preferred (Firsthand experience in the classroom facing the challenges of time allocations, materials, serving needs of linguistically diverse students and levels of language proficiency are important if the person is to be credible as an expert).
- B.S. or B.A. required.
- Masters Degree preferred.
- Certified Bilingual Educator, Degree in Bilingual Education highly desirable.
- Bilingual education expert, experience teaching in a dual/bilingual classroom or supporting bilingual students. Experience with dual language curriculum and programs.
- Proficient Spanish Speaker. Ability to speak, read, write, and present in Spanish.
- Understanding of literacy education foundations in both languages.
- Deep understanding of bilingual education programming and models.
- Ability to discern/analyze program type used by school districts (specific district definition).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- This person must reside in California.
- Must be able to travel 50-60% of time. Certain times of year require more travel than others but must be flexible and available to travel at any time of year.
