The Director of Generation AI is a grant-funded role responsible for leading and managing the strategy, operations, and delivery of ISTE+ASCD's Generation AI program equipping educators with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI into teaching and learning. This position oversees the Senior Project Manager for Innovative Learning and serves as the primary relationship manager for Generation AI coalition partners. The Director designs and facilitates professional learning, manages communications and events for Generation AI activities, and ensures the successful execution of all program deliverables. The ideal candidate is a skilled educator and project manager with a passion for AI in education, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to translate vision into action. This position is currently funded through late 2027.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management and Deliverables
Lead the execution of all Generation AI initiative deliverables, ensuring alignment with program goals, partner commitments, timelines, and budgets. Supervise and support the Senior Project Manager for Innovative Learning, providing direction and accountability for project execution. Monitor project timelines, milestones, and deliverables across multiple workstreams. Track and report on program progress, outcomes, and impact metrics for internal stakeholders and funders. Coordinate internal teams and external partners to ensure successful implementation of initiative activities.
Professional Learning Design and Delivery
Lead the design and delivery of professional learning experiences that support educators in integrating AI into teaching and learning. Develop and curate resources, tools, and content aligned with current research and best practices in AI in education. Ensure professional learning experiences emphasize effective pedagogy, student skill development, and equitable access to AI tools. Align professional learning content with ISTE Standards, the ISTE+ASCD Transformational Learning Principles and the Generation AI program framework. Facilitate workshops, webinars, and training sessions for educators and education leaders.
Coalition Partner Relations
Serve as the primary relationship manager for Generation AI coalition partners. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with partners to support program goals and shared outcomes. Plan agendas and facilitate coalition meetings to encourage productive dialogue and progress. Coordinate communications, updates, and follow-up actions with partners between meetings. Ensure partner commitments and collaborative deliverables are tracked and completed.
Communications and Events
Manage Generation AI’s public-facing communications and program updates. Maintain accurate and up-to-date program information on the ISTE+ASCD website. Coordinate the development and distribution of a monthly newsletter for stakeholders and the educator community. Plan and execute Generation AI related events, including logistics, programming, and coordination with speakers or partners. Represent ISTE+ASCD and the Generation AI initiative at conferences, convenings, and public engagements.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Performs other job tasks as assigned to support the goals and operations of the Generation AI initiative.
PRIORITY WILL BE PROVIDED TO CANDIDATES LIVING IN THE DC METRO AREA(MD, DC, or Northern VA); you will be REQUIRED to come into the Arlington, VA office one day per week. Qualifications Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in education, Educational Technology, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies and their application in K–12 teaching and learning. Familiarity with the ISTE Standards and best practices in professional development and adult learning. Understanding of program evaluation methods and the use of data to measure impact and inform continuous improvement.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to design and deliver engaging professional learning experiences for educators. Strong project management skills, including managing multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating newsletters, web content, or similar communications. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse partners and coalition members. Proficiency with web-based collaboration tools, project management platforms, and content management systems.
Experience
Five or more years of experience in education, educational technology, or a related field. Direct experience as a classroom teacher or instructional leader preferred. Experience designing and facilitating professional learning for educators. Experience managing projects or programs from planning through execution. Experience working with external partners, coalitions, or grant-funded initiatives preferred. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in education.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
