You care about making a positive impact.
End each day knowing that your work had a direct impact on the well-being of hundreds of thousands of at-risk students across the world. Project success means more than just shipping features - it means improving the lives of students and educators.
You value being a part of a company that takes care of its team.
Not only do we have extremely happy team members, we also have incredible perks. Participate in our health/wellness and retirement benefit offerings, and between having every other Friday off (3-day weekends!) and our flexible PTO plan, that elusive work-life balance is an actual thing here.
You want to work for a true, remote-only company.
We’ve never had an office and never will. Our team is spread across 11 countries and 4 continents. We take remote work seriously and know how to support a distributed team. We give you the flexibility to work in a way that’s best for you, but still have high standards and accountability.
You want to join a startup that is growing rapidly *and* sustainably.
We have launched new products, maintained NPS scores of 50+, maintained eNPS (internal, employee score) of 90+, rapidly grown our team, and exponentially increased our user base, all over the last few years. Yet, as a fully bootstrapped company, our growth is organic and sustainable. Our focus is delivering value to students and educators, not paying back investors.
In this role, you will:
- Take a hands-on role in administering employee morale, benefits, and incentive programs, and supporting team engagement initiatives for our fully remote team.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding and offboarding activities, ensuring a well-organized process that values candidate and team member experience.
- Administer internal People Operations tools and systems, acting as a resource to the team and building scalable internal processes.
As a member of the Operations Department, the People Operations Coordinator will be responsible for:
- PTO and Benefits Administration: Provide overall administration of our flexible paid time off program and administrative support for extended leaves of absence. Administer employee benefits programs like home office reimbursements and professional development programs. Analyze and report on benefits usage data.
- Team Meetups and Travel: Coordinate the planning of team meetups, including vendor management, travel arrangements and planning activities. Participate in the development and administration of travel policies and provide logistical support for team member travel as needed.
- Hiring and Onboarding Support: Support hiring cycles and onboarding and offboarding of team members. Participating in recruitment efforts, candidate screening, and hiring cycle administration as necessary.
- Morale Programs: Select thoughtful and personalized morale gifts that allow team members to feel seen and appreciated on an individual level. Support managers in employee recognition efforts.
- Employee Relations: Track and report on survey sentiment scores and propose solutions. Participate in and encourage an active, values-aligned company culture.
- DEIB Initiatives: Support our internal DEIB committee, and implement related initiatives.
- Special Projects: Support employer branding initiatives, bi-annual team feedback surveys and performance evaluation programs, and other projects that reinforce our company values and investment in high-performing teams.
In the short term (the first 3 months)...
During your initial months, you’ll dive into benefits administration processes and begin contributing to hiring and team meetup planning projects. Key responsibilities in this period include:
- Getting to know the structure of the organization, how the departments work together, and who does what
- Supporting team meetup planning initiatives
- Learning the various organizational systems used in People Operations
- Shadowing hiring and onboarding processes and benefits programs
In the long term, you will take on a more independent role in the department, as you become comfortable with systems and processes. After the first three months, the person in this role will be expected to take on each of the areas described in the overall role description listed in the beginning of this document.
What We’re Looking For:
The ideal candidate is someone that is values aligned:
- Starts with empathy, knowing when to praise and when to challenge.
- Ruthlessly prioritizes and says no to the “trivial many” in exchange for saying yes to the “vital few”.
- Creates momentum, not letting the small stuff hold them back and learning through action.
- Is fearlessly objective, constantly asking “Why?” and is not afraid to find answers, even if it means they were wrong.
- Exercises agency, solving problems no one asked them to solve and speaking up when something isn’t working.
Experience in/have:
- 3+ years of experience in HR or People Ops, ideally in a role at a small to mid-sized organization in which wearing many hats was required
- Preferred, but not necessarily required: An HR certification, such as SHRM-CP or PHR from HRCI
- Some exposure to DEIB initiatives
- Data analysis, particularly in People Operations
- Experience in travel policy administration and events coordination
- Strong problem-solving skills, with experience implementing processes that scale
- Strong track record of developing and maintaining reliable process documentation
- The instinct to create personal and professional stretch goals and meet them
- An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues around the world and across time zones
