IM seeks to ensure that students, particularly students who have historically been underserved, and their teachers have access to aligned, grade-level, mathematics curriculum resources, and that teachers experience professional learning that leads to enduring mathematical learning for their students.
The Department: The Senior Editor, Brand & Communications is part of the Product Strategy and Development (PSD) department’s editorial team, reporting to the Editorial Director. The PSD team drives the direction and success of the organization’s product strategy, roadmap, and development, aligned to IM’s vision and goals. The editorial team is responsible for all editorial decisions for the PSD department and the organization at large, and is responsible for the final determination of suitability for publication of all IM departments’ public-facing materials.
The Senior Editor, Brand & Communications will also be deeply embedded in the organization’s Brand & Communications (B&C) department, working closely with the B&C team to coordinate project schedules and write, edit, and proofread content, ensuring all marketing materials meet IM’s highest quality standards while increasing brand awareness among IM’s various audiences.
Position Summary
The Illustrative Mathematics Senior Editor, Brand & Communications is a highly experienced and versatile writer, editor, leader, and project manager who can nimbly shift between roles to communicate ideas creatively and concisely while establishing and maintaining efficient, collaborative cross-team workflows. The Senior Editor, Brand & Communications will serve as the lead writer and editor for brand content, and will assign writing and editing projects to others, as needed.

You must be articulate, innovative, process-driven, and comfortable leading creative projects of all sizes. You’ll bring strategic awareness and a passion for creativity, blending the best of both to inform, inspire, and entertain target audiences in the K–12 mathematics education space.

Travel: <20 percent
Travel Notice: IM aims to provide employees with a minimum of two weeks' notice before requiring them to travel for the company. However, due to the specific demands of certain roles within IM, there may be instances where travel becomes necessary without the ability to provide the full two weeks notice.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the B&C team to produce creative, compelling print and digital content while maintaining a cohesive brand voice and identity
- Research, conceptualize, write, edit, and proofread content for all B&C channels, including email campaigns, social media, websites, podcasts, videos, and thought leadership platforms
- Plan, craft, and edit case studies, slide decks, white papers, reports, guides, and other related communications
- Continuously communicate with fellow editorial team members and cross-department team members to ensure all external communications accurately represent IM’s mission, philosophies, curriculum, professional learning, events, and services
- Develop and adhere to brand guidelines, copy standards, and content libraries
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Assign projects and oversee the work of other staff writers and editors as needed to meet deadlines
- Other duties as assigned by the Editorial Director
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, English, or equivalent experience in a related field
- 10+ years of editing and writing experience, preferably in educational or ed tech publishing, or as an education journalist
- Team player with the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects from concept to completion, and adapt to change quickly
- Skilled storyteller and exceptional communicator
- Ability to understand unique audiences and tailor messaging appropriately
- Experience managing teams of writers and/or editors
- Desire to learn and grow in and with an organization
- Good understanding of mission-driven work, education policy and/or the challenges and opportunities facing the education sector

Compensation & Benefits
In alignment with our commitment to equity in practice and policy, Illustrative Mathematics is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education. This position is exempt. The annual salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000.
