Nelnet Financial Services (“NFS”, the asset management arm of Nelnet) is seeking a Senior Structuring & Analytics associate to be a key member of a growing investment team. This crucial role will have ownership of the modeling and analytics related to financial investments and offer a respected investment perspective. Strengths will include cerebral, creative thinking, trust/reliability, and comfort/expertise in data analysis.
In this role, you will bring expertise, sophistication, curiosity, and rigor in analysis and cash flow modeling, in a manner that elevates and leverages the capability of the broader NFS team and supports disciplined, data-driven decision-making. Creativity and a solid understanding of asset cash flow and liability modeling are imperative. You will be comfortable with daily activities and opportunities that can change by the day and require an ability to prioritize. Investments can include, forward flow, discreet pool purchases, new asset origination, joint ventures, unitranche or mezzanine ABL or non-recourse loans, corporate-level cash flows, and other structured cash-flow investments.
Success in this role also includes a team-based approach focused on driving long-term resilient returns across various investments and structures. While serving as the lead subject matter expert, you will help to empower the team and drive localized expertise and analytical understandings across the organization. You will also excel in using technical expertise to establish insights and views on asset performance and risks.
The role will contribute to optimizing the reporting and analysis of the investment portfolios at Nelnet and Nelnet Bank in a manner that drives a trusted and important feedback loop to help inform investment decision-making.
The positions plays a key role for NFS and in advising Nelnet Bank for investments and supporting Nelnet in its capital markets activities including:
• Performance forecasting / asset cash-flow and liability modeling
• Data tape and historical performance analysis and synthesizing.
• Developing informed opinions - grounded in data and evaluating representativeness - for key assumptions.
• In the absence of (or in addition to) direct historical data, evaluating proxy or other informative performance information.
• Stressing cash-flows and any liability structures to help with a view on potential outcome / economic impacts /resiliency relative to comfort levels.
• Helping assess new asset origination expectations and understanding performance and drivers.
• Structuring potential mezzanine, Cl B, unitranche, certificates or senior securitized or ABL solutions for investment.
• Helping with the structuring of a new securitization issuance as an issuer of ABS for financing collateral.
• Helping identify data insights in collateral performance and communicate insights
• Helping to assess bank warehouse / financing triggers for leverage strategies
• Provides technical guidance and mentoring to other team members to help scale and empower.
• Helping evaluate asset / investment performance and considering relative to expectations.
• Proactively provide strategic insights to offer ideas for improving approaches to analytics, modeling or portfolio oversight.
• Work with / manage others working on data-oriented reporting solutions.
• Collaborates with the other core Nelnet product teams.
Required Experience:
• 5+ years of relevant experience in structured finance and capital markets
• 5+ years experience with cash-flow modeling
• Experience working with rating agencies
• Technical software experience preferred.
Education:
• 4-year degree in business, finance, or related field or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• CFA Charter and/or MBA preferred; progress towards beneficial.
