Summary
This position will involve SQL query, stored procedure, trigger, function, and view creation and debugging. Create and execute database structure and data enhancement scripts as required to meet development goals. Create database designs to meet development goals. Monitor and optimize system performance using index tuning, disk optimization, and other methods. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain a database system. Implement, configure, and troubleshoot database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, and access. Set user privileges within the database environment.
Responsibilities
- Update and maintain all databases utilized by product development staff, across multiple versions of the Jenzabar software.
- Work with the design and development team to produce database designs that meet the specified requirements. Perform database modeling and can communicate that model to the development staff to ensure they understand the schema against which they are developing.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to test and verify delivery of database changes for releases.
- Works as needed with the support team to help resolve difficult database issues in our customer base, including system performance.
- Works as needed with the data services team to answer any questions or help with difficult technical issues faced during conversion.
- Stay current with upcoming versions of Microsoft SQL Server and be aware of changes that will affect the Jenzabar software.
Qualifications
- Complete proficiency in SQL DML, DDL, and DCL commands, proficient coding skills in triggers, views, and stored procedures, and code optimization. Ability to design and code complex procedures, triggers, and views. Thorough understanding and execution of all SQL database administration tasks. Thorough understanding of database delivery concepts (structures and data) with the ability to execute this process in a multi-server environment (deployment to hundreds of customer systems).
- Thorough understanding and ability to create and maintain SQL permissions.
- Thorough understanding and ability to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain a Microsoft SQL Server database system.
- A thorough understanding of relational database concepts and techniques, and the ability to code the implementation via SQL DDL.
- Ability to gather design requirements from\with software product managers and architects.
- Ability to design relational database objects to meet software design goals.
- Ability to recognize and design enterprise-wide requirements to meet application-wide design goals.
- Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Must have current experience with database administration using Microsoft SQL Server technologies. Solid knowledge of and experience with scripts required to manage an SQL environment.
- Proficient in writing complex T-SQL statements, stored procedures, triggers, and views. Need to assist development staff as needed with complex queries and well-performing SQL statements to ensure the proper performance of the system.
- Experience with data import/export, data conversions, and database patch applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with development staff and clients of varying technical expertise.
- Have strong organizational skills-being able to plan, coordinate, and track tasks effectively with a demonstrated history of meeting project deadlines.
- Experience with PowerBuilder, Microsoft Active Directory and working in an academic environment or with higher education software are all desirable.
- Prefer candidates with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, but candidates with less than 5 years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience handling client’s production in high-availability environments is a plus.
The pay range for this position is $85,000 - $102,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, geographic location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus in addition to a full range of benefits.
