Revenue & Contracts Accountant
We are looking for a highly skilled Revenue & Contracts Accountant to support the Order to Cash / Revenue & Receivables process and the setup of sales contracts in our financial reporting system, Sage Intacct related to our CEP and K-12 lines of business. This role will also support the monthly financial statement close process and work with the Director, Revenue Accounting Operations and the VP, Corporate Controller on evaluating monthly results.
The ideal person for this role has strong organizational skills, is extremely detail-oriented, and takes full ownership of the delivery of a consistently superior work product. They have clear verbal and written communication skills, are quick-thinking, adaptable to change, and value working together as one team. Working proactively, independently, and reliably in a fast-paced environment, this individual will prepare and record journal entries to the balance sheet and income statement, sales contract accounting, billing/revenue schedule management processing, and sponsorship invoicing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting role in the Company’s compliance with the revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP.
- Support the month-end close process, including the preparation of receivable-related account reconciliations in partnership with the Director, Revenue Accounting Operations and VP, Corporate Controller.
- Support the monitoring of our business integrations between Salesforce and Sage Intacct. Work with the Revenue Accounting Ops team to troubleshoot and propose solutions.
- Ensure accuracy of reconciliations around deferred revenue and progress billings and ensure symmetry with accounts receivable & collections.
- Support monthly and quarterly close process for certain customer contract accounts (i.e., revenue, deferred revenue, and accrued A/R).
- Document revenue recognition position on new customer contracts, in particular around “bundled” contracts and allocating contract value across all performance obligations.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and reliable accounting records regarding change orders and contract modifications through review of Salesforce and Intacct.
- Review contracts to identify accounting issues and to monitor compliance with the company's revenue recognition policies.
- Respond to customer requests related to supplier setup and invoicing.
- Support Sales and Operational teams as needed.
- Ah hoc financial reporting projects.
- Work with external auditors to provide support and answer questions with support from the Director, Revenue Accounting Operations & Manager, Operations & Finance.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is required. Certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) can be advantageous.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in contract management, revenue recognition, or a related area is usually necessary.
- Advanced mathematical and logical deduction skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Fundamentally strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Familiarity with accounting software programs such as Sage Intacct, Salesforce and reconciliation of customer master data preferred
- Familiarity with Avalara’s Avatax platform, as well as working experience managing sales tax exemptions.
- Familiarity with a project management platform such as Asana is a plus.
