The News Literacy Project, founded in 2008, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization building a national movement to ensure that all students are skilled in news literacy before high school graduation, giving them the knowledge and ability to participate in civic society as well-informed, critical thinkers. NLP is the country’s leading provider of news literacy education and works with educators in all 50 states.
NLP offers news literacy education to students primarily through our signature e-learning platform, Checkology®, and to the public through our debunking website, RumorGuard®.

The News Literacy Project empowers educators to teach middle and high school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age. Our signature product is the Checkologyvirtual classroom, a digital learning platform. Since its launch in 2016, almost 50,000 teachers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories have registered to use it. We are seeking a Digital Marketing Manager who can play a critical role in the marketing vertical by providing technical expertise to power and inform NLP’s marketing campaigns. This position reports to the Director of Social Media.
About the position
The position is ideal for a motivated person who is pursuing a career in digital marketing, data analysis or digital advertising, especially in a nonprofit or educational organization. The Digital Marketing Manager will work closely with the Director of Social Media, the Senior Director of Marketing and the marketing associate to provide technical support, implementation and optimization of digital marketing and advertising campaigns on social media, email and other channels. In addition, the Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for analyzing and sharing digital campaign results and recommendations for optimizing and improving our efforts in reaching target constituencies.
Specifically, in this job, you will:
- Design, code, schedule and analyze results of paid ad campaigns on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
- Assist with production and analysis of digital marketing via display and programmatic ads.
- Develop and manage a cohesive strategy for optimizing Google Ads campaigns – creating and monitoring the campaigns.
- Assist with building, testing, scheduling and deployment of responsive targeted emails and automated email series.
- Analyze and report on performance of digital marketing campaigns across channels such as social media and email.
- Research and recommend new data-driven approaches to reaching and engaging with target audiences.
- Provide backup support for the management of social media channels while the Director of Social Media is away.
- Other technical and/or administrative duties as assigned.
About you
This position will directly impact many thousands of students in schools across the country and plays a pivotal role in shaping and achieving our organizational strategy. In addition to the qualifications noted above, the successful candidate will have all or most of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least three years of experience managing digital marketing campaigns, social media and/or brand marketing.
- Exceptional research and analytical skills – with the ability to keep creative, content and marketing objectives top of mind even while building or arranging an A/B test.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills – skilled at making progress on multiple projects at once.
- Proficient with Google Workspace, including Google Analytics and Google Ads.
- Proficient with social media platforms, networks and advertising management systems.
- Strong understanding of CRMs, preferably Every Action.
- Excellent grasp of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Notion.
- Comfortable moving from big-picture strategy to tactical implementation.
- Comfortable working collaboratively as well as independently in a fast-paced remote environment.
Compensation and benefits
This is a full-time position. The salary for this role is $60,000 to $65,000, depending on experience. NLP also offers outstanding benefits, including a potential annual bonus of up to 10% for exceptional performance, health and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan match and more.
