The HR Operations Specialist provides a single point of contact for Strategic Education, Inc. employees to obtain prompt and accurate information about a wide variety of Human Resources programs and services. The incumbent receives and responds to incoming internal customer questions, problems or requests (via email and telephone) regarding HR issues. This individual provides service directly or ensures the issue is addressed by other HR service providers.
The incumbent is also responsible for Human Resources Capital Management (HCM) data transactions and provides administrative process support for compensation, benefits and other HR programs, plans and services. Customer service orientation, attention to detail and teamwork are key factors for success in this role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides accurate and timely responses to questions from employees about various Human Resources issues. Effectively and efficiently documents all inquiries into the HR Help Desk system according to department standards. Refers inquiries to Tier 2 resources in the HR Service Center, Centers of Expertise or HR Business Partners as appropriate.
- Effectively directs employees to appropriate sources of information (both internal and external) to seek answers to their inquiries.
- Responds to and resolves questions or issues raised by employees or leaders in areas such as compensation, payroll, benefits, learning and development, employee data and HR policies.
- Thoroughly document and record all inquiries and resolutions within the HR Help Desk system to ensure complete information for future reference and archival purposes. Document issues escalated to Tier 2, Centers of Expertise and/or HR Business Partners following the established protocol.
- Provide employee feedback to Centers of Expertise concerning HR program/service enhancements or improvements.
- Responsible for accurate and timely entry of HR data related to employee hires, terminations, benefits, compensation and data changes in the Workday HCM system and a variety of vendor information systems.
- Provides overall records management including HCM data maintenance and filing.
- Participates in the development of tools, templates and checklists to improve effectiveness and consistency in HR programs/processes.
- Ensures process controls are monitored and adheres to Strategic Education, Inc. audit requirements and compliance programs.
- Prepares and distributes reports on a regular and ad hoc basis.
- Assists with a variety of compensation and benefits administration processes such as merit review process, annual incentive compensation process and benefits open enrollment.
- Assists with the preparation, distribution, tracking, processing and auditing of HR documents such as Employee Intake Forms, new hire and termination paperwork, employment verifications, COBRA (continuation of benefits coverage) notices and incentive plan agreements.
- Assists with the coordination, scheduling and delivery of events/activities such as new employee orientation and benefits open enrollment meetings.
- Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
Job Skills:
- Compensation, benefits, and/or HRIS experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of basic principles, practices and standards of Human Resources administration. Professional, customer service-oriented approach to work in a fast-paced, for-profit environment.
- Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize the work of multiple projects to meet deadlines. Follows through and ensures appropriate resolution of issues or problems. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of customer requirements in a diverse community. Strong written communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint). PeopleSoft experience strongly preferred. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in working with sensitive and personal information.
Work Experience:
- Human Resources experience required.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business or related field and 1-2 years professional work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other:
- Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Typical office setting.
- Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
- Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
