Summary:
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Senior 2D Game Artist to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design & animation process for your cross-functional team in creating fun and engaging games for Age of Learning's Schools division for classroom Mastery learning programs. Your focus will be user experience design, user interface design, background design and animation. You will collaborate closely with team members to create engaging and effective learning experiences that delight students, impress teachers and meet our strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and brainstorm innovative game concepts that prioritize fun and engagement for kids while holding our educational goals.
- Explore unique game mechanics and themes that captivate young learners and enhance their educational experience.
- Craft intuitive game designs that enhance engagement through interactive elements, playful navigation, delightful imagery, and animation tailored for a school-aged audience.
- Develop animations that enhance user interactions and storytelling within games, making each moment engaging and visually captivating.
- Ensure consistency in design elements and interactions throughout.
- Experiment with different animation styles and techniques to create a playful and dynamic experience while maintaining performance optimizations.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure seamless integration of animations within games.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and educators, to bring your designs to life and ensure alignment throughout the development process.
- Facilitate design discussions, guiding teams through wireframes and story mapping while fostering an environment of creativity, innovation, and collaboration.
- Present design work and game concepts to leadership, articulating how the games meet curriculum objectives and educational standards.
- Adhere to project timelines, making design decisions that keep the project on track while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Document design features, workflows, and specifications clearly and comprehensively for reference by team members and stakeholders.
- Maintain updated design documentation to facilitate collaboration and future project iterations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in animation, game design, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in animation art and design , preferably in educational technology or gaming.
- A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, including wireframes, UI designs, and animation projects relevant to games or interactive applications.
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and 2D animation software.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions and present design concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong understanding of design principles, user-centered design processes, and innovative animation techniques.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with educational standards, learning theories, and curriculum design, particularly in K-12 education.
- Experience in creating animations and interactions maintaining performance optimization for various devices.
- Knowledge of metrics and data analysis to evaluate design effectiveness and inform design decisions.
- Experience working in Agile environments, with a solid understanding of Agile principles and practices.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior designers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.
Total Compensation:
The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $70,000 USD to $105,000 USD. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
