As a SID at Red Nucleus (RN), you have substantial experience designing and writing interactive, engaging, and effective learning solutions for life sciences industry professionals.
You have the ability to process client goals, objectives, and strategy and create solid learning solutions that convey and reinforce the client’s goals for the target learners. You also have significant experience writing and/or designing a wide variety of formats, including e-learning, print, in-person or virtual workshops, videos, podcasts, games, assessments, coaching guides, and other materials from RN’s portfolio of products. This range of experience allows you to perform curricula analyses and design full or partial curricula that leverage blended approaches.
In the Senior Instructional Designer role, you understand the organizational structure of your core accounts and are able to take a lead role in engaging with client stakeholders on a project-level (proposal, design and development) as well as a lead role in consulting with those stakeholders regarding long-term organizational learning and development plans. You also have demonstrated an ability to adapt to workflow peaks.
Responsibilities Include
A Senior Instructional Designer’s responsibilities fall within 5 core areas: Learning Solutions Design, Learning Innovation, Client Interaction, Sales Support, and Collaboration with Instructional Designers and Medical Writers.
Learning Solutions Design
- Consulting with clients and subject matter experts inside and outside of RN to shape the design of learning solutions
- Working with complex (and sometimes scientific) information, including client strategy and sales/marketing messaging, and using that information to design accessible, objectives-based, and engaging learning experiences for the target audience
- Certifying and consulting with Medical Writers and other teammates to provide insights from an ID standpoint (internal and/or freelance)
- Incorporating sound instructional design and adult learning principles
- Conducting effective and informative needs analysis of a client’s situation to determine the best learning solutions. This can include analyzing any existing data, conducting learner and SME interviews, considering business goals and constraints, and making specific recommendations
- Creating curricula designs with the appropriate mix of modalities, topics, and learning touch points given the client’s needs, budget, timelines, and audience
- Maintaining high quality in all writing deliverables—accuracy, relatability, and spelling/grammar
- Designing solutions that are targeted to the needs of the learner and based on client goals
- Leading the writing of Instructional Design Plans (IDPs) where appropriate
- Following RN and client editorial standards
- Adhering to client processes and requirements and medical, legal, and regulatory standard
Learning Innovation
- Leading the development of learning innovations, such as new styles/approaches or new uses of existing products (eg, a new interactive learning exercise, use of a new storytelling style, use of a new video style)
- Leading design of novel learning approaches and/or new solutions for client-sponsored projects (eg, augmented reality, escape room)
- Keeping up to date on innovative instructional and experience design ideas to help foster new and engaging learning experiences
- Contributing to shaping off-the-shelf and custom RN solutions from a usability and experience design standpoint (design thinking)
- Contributing to RN marketing writing efforts for Red Papers, one-pagers, and other promotional materials
Client Interaction
- Attending kickoffs, status calls, and any applicable review meetings with client teams that may consist of members from Sales, Marketing, Medical, Legal, and Regulatory departments
- Leading content-gathering, SME interviews, brainstorming, and other design-related sessions (internal and client-attended)
- Presenting Instructional Design Plans (IDPs) or other deliverables to the client as needed
- Proactively offering alternate solutions to meet the client’s learning and development needs
Sales Support
- Attending meetings with CSD, SPM, PM, Account Manager, and client to determine client needs and expectations for their project(s)
- Reviewing the Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to evaluate the needs, perform any associated research, and start informing a solution for the proposal
- Contributing heavily (and often leading) the development of sales proposals and presentations
- Presenting the Solution Design (or similar portions) of the sales pitch
Collaboration with Instructional Designers and Medical Writers
- Consulting with Medical Writers as to how to most effectively present information, create an effective learning experience, apply adult learning principles, etc
- Maintaining open lines of communication and collaboration with company IDs and others to provide updates and tips and to share other important account/project info
- Creating and maintaining best practices, tips, examples, and similar design documentation related to Red Nucleus products and solutions
About You
- BS/BA degree
- >5 years of Instructional Design experience, including writing in a wide variety of formats/products
- Experience in creating learning solutions and curricula for the life sciences industry that enhance learning retention and transfer
- Demonstrated familiarity with instructional design models, best practices, and adult learning theory/principles
- Experience in conducting a learning needs analysis, including assessing competency gaps and identifying what people need to learn for successful individual and organizational performance
- Pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or biotechnology sales training experience
- Graduate degree in instructional design, education, or organizational development; or equivalent experience
- Experience with instructional technology (eg, Articulate, Camtasia)
- Teaching experience and/or education
- Experience writing in multimedia formats
