Vision
Through our holistic services and core programming, we give our youth the opportunity to build relationships, develop new skills, and establish goals that will put them on a trajectory to success and self-sufficiency in adulthood.

Position: GED Instructor (Contractor)
Compensation: $30/hr (8:30am-2:30pm)
Position Overview
The GED Instructor is responsible for teaching basic skills to referred youth and young adults ages 16-24, with varying academic skill levels while integrating personal development, social justice and culture. The instructor helps students meet academic goals and stay engaged in their education.
Duties and Areas of Responsibility
- Design and implement academic interventions for all subject areas of the GED exam (ELA, Math, Social Studies, Science).
- Communicate with program personnel and parents/students regarding academic rate of progress.
- Gather, compile, and disaggregate data; and link that data to student learning and instruction.
- Differentiate instruction based on assessment data.
- Document interventions and progress on each student.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that prepare students to fulfill and master the requirements of the GED exam.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students. • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Eight Million Stories discipline guidelines. • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum one (1) year experience working with at-risk and/or opportunity youth (16-24 years old)
