POSITION TITLE:Senior Director, Development - Midwest Region
LOCATION:Midwest (St. Louis or Kansas City)
REPORTS TO: SVP, Development
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Per Scholas is seeking a Senior Director, Development of the national development team. You will hold key responsibilities in team leadership, managing dynamic development professionals focused on fundraising for campuses in the Midwest Region (currently Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, Kansas City, and St. Louis) towards a $5M+ revenue target in 2024 and year-over-year growth of at least 15%.
The successful candidate will also directly raise funds through proactive cultivation and stewardship of existing and new funders. You will hold key responsibilities in funder relations, corporate engagement, grant writing, individual giving and organizational storytelling, and will work closely with local Managing Directors and the Regional Senior Vice President to meet revenue targets and grow our programs throughout the region.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Portfolio Leadership and Relationship Management
- Develop and implement a fundraising strategy, in partnership with Regional Senior Vice President and Managing Directors, to support and expand operations in MW markets.
- Lead identification and cultivation of relationships with new corporate, foundation, government, and individual funding sources with potential to support MW campuses through activities such as site visits and funder meetings.
- Lead relationship management for campus funding portfolios, in partnership with Managing Directors and other internal stakeholders, including management or deadlines, meetings, and communications.
- Clearly articulate market goals, activities, outcomes, successes, challenges, etc. to funders. Generate programmatic reports and use market research to create compelling narratives for reports, proposals and other collateral.
- Coordinate with local program and budget teams to gather all needed information and collateral to prepare and write accurate and compelling letters of interest, grant proposals, reports, and other materials that are responsive to donor guidelines.
- Forecast revenue projections for campuses, and coordinate with other teams to forecast cash flow, ensuring revenue tracking current.
- Participate in and provide support to quarterly Advisory Board meetings, and as relevant serve as a thought partner to the local campus lead to integrate the Advisory Board into the campus fundraising strategy.
- Coordinate with communications staff to leverage communications opportunities for development purposes and ensure consistent language and branding.
Personnel Management
Provide direct supervision, coaching and training for the Midwest regional fundraising team, including Senior Managers, Associates, Consultants, and/or Interns in both internal- and external-facing roles.
- Review and edit the work of other staff members, including Senior Managers, Managers, and Associates, as well as consultants and communications staff, to accurately reflect Per Scholas’ impact and growth strategy.
- Work closely with the SVP, Development, other Regional Development leaders, and Midwest region team members to develop relevant protocols and procedures and create more efficient systems.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US:
Professional Requirements
- 7-10 years of fundraising / development experience, with considerable experience grant writing and portfolio management
- At least 5 years of team management experience
- At least 3 years of experience working in collaboration with executive level stakeholders on complex issues
- Exceptional writing, editing, and copy-editing skills
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proven research abilities, including gathering and interpreting data; funder prospecting experience desirable
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce and Google Apps for Business (Docs, Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Chat, etc.)
- Availability to travel 15-20%
- Capacity to attend key external meetings as the organizational representative

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $110,000 - $120,000 where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.
