The Product Manager plays an important role in supporting the execution of the strategic plan(s) that positively impact the university’s competitive position, market value proposition, and meet/exceed annual operating plan goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Acquire and analyze market information to determine the performance of markets and products against agreed-upon criteria.
- Acquire, track, and understand primary and secondary market information, including competitive intelligence, to help identify market insights and trends.
- Track and analyze internal product information for established products to identify trends, issues, and opportunities to address.
- Monitor and report ongoing business results to support cross-functional activities impacting each step of the learner life cycle.
- Support the management of the product portfolio, including assessing products for restaging and retirement, adjusting existing products as needed to reflect new market/consumer insights, and building a pipeline of potential future products.
- Serve as the primary market liaison to the Strategic Operations team taking a leadership role to get new/revised products/initiatives (aligned to University strategic priorities) launched on time and within budget.
- Partnering with the Academic team to drive market plan goals and results.
Job Skills:
- Market knowledge and/or experience supporting products and services, with an understanding of internal processes, target market definition, product design and positioning, pricing, promotional strategies, data collection, and reporting requirements strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills, excellent project management skills, and strong cross-functional leadership skills plus a keen eye for detail are required.
- Additional related experience, formal education, and/or university knowledge may be substituted for some of the years of formal product/service development experience.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of 2-3 years of broad-based business experience and at least one year in product/service marketing or strategic operational role.
Education:
- BS degree required in business, marketing, strategy, or finance strongly preferred.
Other:
- Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
- Must be able to lift 10lbs.
- Typical office setting.
- Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
- Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
- Access information using a computer.
- Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
- Effectively cope with stressful situations.
- Strong mental acuity.
- Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
