mCLASS provides proven early literacy diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments to comprehensively support each student’s literacy development in grades K–6. Our suite of early literacy resources work together seamlessly to target skill gaps and provide the right instruction at the right time. Authored by researchers at the University of Oregon, mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition and mCLASS Lectura provide efficient, reliable early reading measures with advanced test design that prevents overtesting. mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition and mCLASS Lectura measure the five basic early literacy skills: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Amplify also provides Lectura, an assessment of Spanish foundational skills. Among its services, Amplify currently works in close partnership with districts to offer coaching programs that support educators in utilizing data-driven practices to improve their instruction.
Amplify is seeking an Instructional Coach for Biliteracy with deep knowledge of best practices for multilingual learners and bilingual education who has a background in teaching, curriculum design, coaching and/or school leadership to join our Professional Development (PD) team as a fixed-term employee for New York City Public Schools from January 2025- January 2026 (with potential for contract extension based on customer need/request).
The instructional coach will work in collaboration with NYCPS departments and schools with an emphasis on bilingual programs who are currently implementing mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition and mCLASS Lectura. The coach will work in collaboration with district leadership, school leaders, and central office teams to conduct a comprehensive inventory of instructional resources and lead efforts to align them with the instructional goals of the district, focusing on the specific needs of multilingual learners and will support district initiatives through the creation of an implementation plan that drives student outcomes through the improvement upon:
- Professional Development Practices
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Scheduling and Time
- Effective Data Review and Intervention Processes
- Assessment Practices
- Staffing
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Instructional Coach will support resource development and usage. This position will follow NYCPS’s district calendar. Most weeks will be 40 hour work weeks, though the Instructional Coach will support the Amplify PD team on department-wide initiatives on days that NYCPS teachers have off (holidays, winter break, summer break, school cancellations, etc.). This role will be primarily remote, with the possibility of being onsite in schools or district offices up to 30% of the time. Support will vary, but may include designing and/or delivering PD throughout the summer and during breaks to NYCPS and other districts.
In this role, you will collaborate with district/school leadership and the Amplify Literacy Professional Development Strategist assigned to NYCPS to determine the strategy, focus, and approach for different times of the year. You will also partner with district/school leadership to adjust course, as needed, with an eye toward improving student outcomes. An outcomes-centered orientation and the ability to pivot on short notice are necessary for this role.
The Instructional Coach’s daily responsibilities will be determined along with their manager, based on the district’s goals and priorities throughout the year. Specific areas of focus may include, but are not limited to:
Resource Development and Strategy:
- Documenting, studying, and creating an implementation playbook that improves upon system wide structures in the following areas:
- Professional Development
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Scheduling and Time
- Effective Data Review Processes
- Assessment Practices
- Staffing
- Create and tailor instructional resources to align with district-defined goals and the needs of multilingual learners.
- Develop and update school-level playbooks with strategies, guidelines, and benchmarks for successful literacy shifts.
- Through a variety of methods, support successful implementation of literacy shifts in alignment with best practices for multilingual learners through direct collaboration with key partners who include: school and district leaders, teachers, and members of central office teams which will include opportunities for in-person visits
In addition to these specific areas of focus in coaching, the instructional coach will also:
- Build knowledge about other early literacy programs as well as district initiatives in order to support a cohesive educator experience across products
- Proactively seek out feedback and adapt practice based upon what is leading to improved student outcomes
- Create or customize professional development experiences, as needed
- Facilitate district-wide professional development sessions (in person and remote), as needed, for leaders and teachers
Minimum Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish (including speaking, reading, and writing) and able to deliver trainings in Spanish
- Demonstrated experience teaching foundational skills (phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency) with Science of Reading aligned, high quality instructional materials
- 3+ years experience leading sustained coaching engagements and/or professional development for educators in K-5
- 7+ years of K-5 classroom literacy teaching experience, leading to demonstrable results for students
- Experience in a dual language or bilingual educational setting working directly in both English and Spanish
- Experience working on collaborative projects with leaders and teachers
- Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice
- Proven efficacy in time management while managing multiple engagements and competing priorities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology-based productivity tools including Microsoft and Google Applications
- Able to travel to schools in New York City to support educators onsite in NYC area schools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using or supporting mCLASS
- Experience analyzing data and using it to inform practice
- Experience in curriculum and/or instructional resource development
- Ability to support teachers in a remote learning environment, if needed
- Able to navigate instruction with different Learning Management Systems (Schoology, Clever, Google Classroom, etc.)
- Knowledge of Amplify CKLA, mCLASS and/or Boost/Boost Lectura a plus
- Master’s or advanced degree in education
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: This position requires that the Instructional Coach, Biliteracy is permitted to work in the US, have residency in the US, and possess a valid US driver’s license. Preferably, the coach lives within 30 miles of New York City. The Coach may be asked to deliver sessions throughout the country based on business needs and during school closures or if the contract terminates early.
Travel: Local travel is required and considered an essential job function. Car mileage and related expenses for professional development delivery are initially paid in advance by the Instructional Coach, Biliteracy. Reimbursements for these expenses - including mileage if driving your own car - will be processed 2-3 weeks following submission of the expense reimbursement requests.

Equipment: This position requires reliable home internet that can support video calls on Google Meet and Zoom and a quiet, professional place to deliver remote professional development.
Compensation and Benefits: The gross salary for this role is an annual salary of $100,000-$110,000. Fixed-term employees are Amplify employees with a defined assignment end date as part of their employment offer. The annualized gross salary range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000.
