About
The purpose of teaching and learning is to prepare students to become disciplined, socially
aware, empathetic and productive members of society. Having a teacher that understands the
importance of these things allows students to feel comfortable embracing the world around them
with a guide. Every subject helps students acquire outlooks of being open minded, critical
thinkers. Our job is to assist students in acquiring these mindsets, while giving them the tools to
be able to utilize them - not only to teach them what to think, but how to think.
Teaching style
I am a teacher who often utilizes the socratic method to engage students during direct instruction
lessons, then I assess with project based learning assignments.
Group work encourages students to be social in healthy forms while learning to collaborate in
important situations, helps them hold each other accountable, and promotes the creative process.
Getting to know your students
Forming relationships with your students allows them & you to utilize their strengths, find their
weaknesses and recognize their talents. There is nothing a person wants more than to be seen, I
make it a point to be able to see each and every one of my students for who they are. I can
recognize my success as a teacher when I see student motivation to be engaged with my content
in their behaviors and classroom participation. I often must account for students who may not be
as engaged with group discussions. I give these students personal oral assessments during group
discussions in smaller groups to ensure they are still understanding and engaging with content. I
support a diverse classroom where people are free to be themselves and always encourage
students to bring new ideas to the table, and ask questions and most of all to try, even if they fail.
Why do I teach?
I teach because I believe the most powerful thing in the world is to be able to tell your story, and
teachers give students the ability to tell their story by supplying them with the tools they need to
think, write, and a little bit of perspective.
