About
Find new voices. Educate through data insight. Drive real-world impact.
I’m John D. Hazard — a Data Educator and Remote Learning Strategist dedicated to using data for social good. Over the past 6+ years at General Assembly, I’ve paired my passion for teaching with hands-on analytics to help learners—and the organizations they serve—thrive.
Student-First Teaching: I care deeply about every learner’s journey. Through interactive lectures, real-world projects, and one-on-one coaching, I’ve driven double-digit improvements in our Net Promoter Score—earning 90%+ positive student feedback and comments like “John Hazard was a wonderful instructor. He is warm, approachable, kind, and very smart and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure getting to know him and learn from him. He is an exceptional person.” and “John was so great! He was my go-to instructor when I needed help with something or had a question. Although I didn't have a great time with Python, when I met with him, he made sure to know what I was struggling in and gave me time to work on my labs. He even reassured me that I would get it as time goes on and as long as I practice. He was the best!”
Curriculum & Course Design: I architect remote-first courses that balance theory and practice, so students leave with both confidence and competence. I’ve launched new modules on social-impact analytics that empower learners to tackle pressing challenges—from housing insecurity to public health equity.
Social-Good Data Partnerships: Whether through pro-bono projects with nonprofits or collaborative hackathons, I translate complex datasets into actionable insights that drive measurable outcomes. My commitment to data for social good means every lesson is framed around real-world problems and ethical, human-centered solutions.
