Job Title: Part- Time Van Driver (Contractor)
Job Overview: The Van Driver will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from Eight Million Stories, field trips, and other activities. The position requires a dependable, courteous, and safety-conscious individual to ensure the welfare of students while operating a van.
Position Details:
Location: Houston, TX (Gulfton and surrounding areas)
Position Type: Part-Time Contractor
Hours: 7:00am-9:30am/2:00pm-4:30pm Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-1:00pm Friday
Compensation: $18.00/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely transport students to and from programming, events, and field trips.
- Follow designated routes and schedules, ensuring timely and efficient transportation.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students while in transit, following all safety protocols and regulations.
- Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the vehicle.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the van to ensure it is in good working condition and report any issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, including student attendance and mileage.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic maintenance of the van, ensuring it is kept neat and in proper operating condition.
- Ensure the van is fueled and ready for use when needed.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and policies regarding student transportation.
- Communicate effectively with Eight Million Stories staff, parents, and students, providing information as needed.
- Assist with the supervision of students during travel, ensuring that they remain seated and behave appropriately.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or issues during transport immediately to the appropriate school authority.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Experience in driving a passenger van or similar vehicle is preferred.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to maintain composure and handle emergency situations if they arise.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and local traffic laws.
- Patience, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift and assist students if necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive for extended periods.
- Ability to sit for long periods while driving.
- Ability to assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
