About our Team
Cell Metabolism publishes at the forefront of metabolism research. This is an exciting opportunity to engage in the shaping and guiding of basic and translational metabolism research, as well as an opportunity to facilitate and improve the process of scientific discourse and communication. As a member of the Cell Metabolism editorial team, you would be responsible for a broad range of contributions to the journal, including recruiting exciting studies; assessing submitted research papers; selecting and collaborating with top notch referees; identifying timely, emerging topics to commission for review articles; writing and editing content for the journal homepage and social media outlets; and engaging authors throughout the review process. You will play an active role in the development and implementation of journal strategy, while representing Cell Press and broader metabolism ecosystem. The job also entails traveling to scientific conferences and research institutions where you will directly interact with the scientific community.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic full-time Scientific Editor to join the Cell Metabolism team. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in any topic area covered by the journal (Aims and scope: Cell Metabolism) and are particularly interested in candidates with translational and/or clinical research experience. Ideally, candidates will have prior editorial experience, but creativity, collaboration, an ability to organize, prioritize and a passion for science are a must. This is a full-time editorial position, ideally based in our Cambridge, MA office. Responsibilities
- Evaluating and making decisions on research papers submitted to Cell Metabolism.
- Engaging with the scientific community in their labs and at conferences. Learning about scientific developments, recruiting papers, and establishing relationships.
- Working with the Cell Metabolism team on editorial processes, decision making and collaborative projects.
- Advocating for science, provide thought leadership, and influence the practice and direction of science and scientific communication.
- Building deep relationships with Cell Press journals on content and collaborative projects.
- Contributing to broader Cell Press and Elsevier initiatives.
Requirements
- Have a Ph.D in any are related to the topics that Cell Metabolism covers
- Be able to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues
- Have an interest in engaging with the scientific community
- Demonstrate talent for distilling complex concepts and communicating them
- Be dedicated to teamwork and possess a collaborative problem-solving mindset
- Have excellent time management and organizational skills. Be able to balance multiple priorities to achieve team goals
- Have the ability to work successfully in diverse team settings
- Demonstrate an interest in science communication and publishing trends
- Be able and willing to travel for business needs such as conferences and institute visits.
