Summary

Lead sustaining engineering efforts at CENTEGIX to enhance reliability and quality of wearable safety technology solutions used across healthcare, education, and commercial sectors. Oversee a team of engineering contractors while translating stakeholder needs into technical solutions and driving product lifecycle sustainment strategies.

Key Responsibilities: Manage sustaining engineering operations, mentor contractor teams to diagnose and resolve field issues, and conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurring problems. Partner with leadership to communicate priorities and timelines, while providing strategic feedback to R&D teams to influence future product design.
Skills & Tools: Deep expertise in embedded systems, IoT engineering, C firmware development, Nordic nRF52XX and Semtech LR1110 platforms, Altium PCB layout, LoRa and Bluetooth protocols, and OTA firmware updates. Strong leadership and mentoring abilities with clear written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications: 10-15 years of engineering experience with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles overseeing embedded systems and IoT projects. Hands-on experience with Nordic nRF52XX SoCs and Semtech LR1110, plus proficiency in version control, Docker, and RF board design.
Location: Hybrid in Annapolis, Maryland, United States (remote-first within Washington-Baltimore area)
Compensation: $140,000 – $180,000/year

Purpose

CENTEGIX is seeking a Director of Sustaining Engineering to join our Engineering team in Annapolis, MD. This leader will oversee sustaining efforts for our safety technology platform, guiding a team of experienced engineering contractors to ensure the reliability, quality, and continuous improvement of products already in the field. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills, enabling them to translate business needs into engineering solutions, drive issue resolution, and provide strategic input that shapes future product development.

Position Responsibilities

  • Translate problem sets from non-technical stakeholders into clear, testable engineering scenarios.

  • Lead and mentor a team of contractors to diagnose, prioritize, and resolve sustaining bugs and issues.

  • Partner with Engineering and Operations leadership to communicate priorities, field metrics, and project timelines.

  • Oversee root cause analysis and product lifecycle sustainment strategies to ensure long-term reliability.

  • Provide strategic feedback to R&D/Product teams to influence future product design and prevent recurring issues.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years Engineering Experience

Leadership Experience (minimum 5 years):

  • Embedded systems engineering

  • IoT engineering

  • Engineering sustainment and lifecycle support

  • Hands-on development with Nordic nRF52XX SoCs

  • Hands-on development with Semtech LR1110

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in C firmware development for embedded systems

  • Proficiency with version control (e.g., Git), Docker, and VPN software

  • Proficiency in Altium PCB layout for 2- and 4-layer mixed-signal RF boards

  • Strong understanding of LoRa and Bluetooth protocol stacks, testbeds, and racks

  • Experience with OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware update systems

Leadership & Communication:

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a small engineering team/contractors

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

Location/Travel:

  • Must be local to the Washington–Baltimore area, fully remote within the area

  • Office located in Annapolis, MD

  • Occasional travel optional (approx. once a year for company-wide meetups
