In this role, you’ll lead strategic publicity efforts across categories like memoirs, history, true crime, lifestyle, pop culture, and social issues. You’ll craft campaigns that spark conversation, secure meaningful media coverage, and champion the voices shaping today’s most compelling stories. This position can be hybrid in Naperville or NYC, or fully remote in the following states Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
This is an exempt, salaried position with a range of $65,000-$75,000. We determine starting pay based on a thorough evaluation of job-related factors, including geographic location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate’s qualifications.
As part of a collaborative and passionate team, you’ll have the chance to:
- Drive media coverage for buzzworthy books in prescriptive and narrative nonfiction.
- Create unforgettable moments by planning bookstore events, securing media coverage, and organizing appearances at major conferences.
- Leverage the power of social media, using TikTok and Instagram trends to engage online communities and create excitement around our titles.
- Build personal relationships with major national media (i.e. NPR, morning shows, daytime TV, cable news programs, NY Times, PW)
- Execute high impact author tours for key titles
- Attend select US-based conferences as needed (1-2 per year)
- Communicate efforts, accomplishments, and execution of publicity program to authors; serve as publicity lead on assigned titles
- Communicate weekly/monthly top-level nonfiction publicity activities to sales department
- Work closely with sales managers to ensure that nonfiction programs/campaigns reach full potential
- Present publicity and marketing plans at Sales Conference
What You Bring:
- 6-8+ years publicity experience for a book publisher.
- Proven experience in book publicity and events; excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong media relationships.
- A willingness to experiment, pursue new ideas, and ways of working.
- Strong creative perspective including writing skills and visual instincts.
- Familiarity with TikTok and Instagram trends, and a keen awareness of the online audience landscape.
- Demonstrated experience or relevant interest in the adult non-fiction category is a plus.
