As a key leader on the Product Design team, the Principal, Product Design System leads, creates, maintains, and promotes the Savvas Product Design Systems, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and scalability across all product development efforts.
The Product Design System Specialist concentrates on strategic initiatives related to the visual and interaction design of the Design System, developing and documenting reusable components, patterns, color schemes, and typography.
This role serves as a connector between the product design, art, and production teams, emphasizing the infrastructure that supports consistent, high-quality learning experiences across the product design.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design System Strategy, Creation, & Maintenance: Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of design guidelines, reusable design components, patterns, and standards.
- Documentation & Guidelines: Create and maintain an actionable, concise documentation, including usage guidelines, accessibility standards (WCAG), behavioral specifications, and code examples for designers and developers.
- Evolve Design Systems by strategically integrating AI to maximize its effectiveness throughout product development. Resulting in accelerated product delivery, improved consistency, and more efficient system maintenance.
- Partner closely with Product Design Directors, Product Design Managers, and Product Designers to gather requirements, ensure seamless implementation, and advocate for best practices in design implementation.
- Conduct regular audits of existing or new product development to identify inconsistencies and ensure high-quality execution and adherence to the design system's standards.
- Drive the adoption of the design system across the Savvas Product Design organization through advocacy and influence. Provide ongoing support, training, and workshops to various teams to ensure system usage.
- Define and evolve the design system's roadmap, integrate feedback loops, and stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies (like AI assistance and design tokens) to ensure the design system remains scalable and relevant.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5+ years of experience in senior product design, UX/UI, or a similar role, with a dedicated focus on building and scaling design systems.
- Demonstrated (through portfolio of work) experience in graphic design/UX design/human-centered design, that demonstrates proficiency in interaction and visual design
- A certificate or degree in the aforementioned fields is a plus.
- A strong portfolio of innovative design work experience, evidence of graphic/visual, UX, and UI design experience, and website usability best practices, rapid prototyping, and working on product design from the big picture to the last details.
- Advanced knowledge of Product Design Tools like the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Figma, and Figma Make. Including component properties, variants, and libraries.
- The ability to think abstractly and design solutions that work as a system across multiple products, gadgets, and platforms, not just a single use case.

- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to align diverse product design teams, product stakeholders, and mentor other designers. Ability to self-manage and work independently.
