The Financial Planning and Systems Manager is a key leadership role within the Finance team, responsible for owning and advancing the organization’s financial systems, management reporting, and planning infrastructure. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role supports the organization’s growth and strategic objectives by ensuring the reliability, scalability, and effectiveness of financial data, processes, and tools.
This position serves as the owner of Finance systems and reporting processes, acting as the primary point of accountability for budgeting, forecasting, internal reporting, and finance-related system implementations. While this role does not have direct reports, it carries manager-level responsibility through functional ownership, cross-functional leadership, and decision-making authority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Own the design, integrity, and ongoing improvement of Finance systems, management reporting, and planning processes.
- Establish standards, controls, and best practices for financial data, reporting structures, and workflows.
- Oversee the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial reports.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability of management reporting for senior leadership and operating teams.
- Develop dashboards and analytical tools that provide insight into performance, trends, and drivers of results.
Financial Systems & Technology Leadership
- Serve as the Finance lead and subject matter expert for financial systems and data-related initiatives.
- Lead finance participation in organization-wide IT projects, system implementations, integrations, and upgrades.
- Partner with IT and external vendors to define requirements, test solutions, and ensure successful adoption.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Own the annual operating budget and monthly forecast processes, including timelines, assumptions, models, and deliverables.
- Coordinate closely with Accounting to support month-end close activities, ensuring alignment between actual results, forecasts, and management reporting.
- Partner with department leaders to strengthen financial discipline, budget adherence, and understanding of financial results.
- Evaluate variances and performance drivers and communicate implications to leadership.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, FP&A, or financial systems roles.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial modeling, and management reporting.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial and accounting systems, reporting tools, and data analysis.
- Proven ability to independently own complex processes and deliver results with minimal oversight.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Skills & Experience
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives or system implementations.
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on data integrity and controls.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with all levels of the organization.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Salesforce or integrated financial platforms is a plus.
