Summary

Lead Data Engineer role responsible for driving the technical direction, reliability, and scalability of Penn Foster Group's data platform while leading a team of engineers. This player-coach position combines hands-on technical execution with mentoring, architectural ownership, and cross-functional partnerships with BI, product, and MLOps teams.

Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, set technical expectations and engineering standards, and own the architecture of the data platform with focus on Databricks in Azure. Design and operate scalable data pipelines, establish best practices for data modeling and quality, conduct code reviews, and serve as escalation point for complex data issues and production incidents.
Skills & Tools: Deep expertise in Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog), Azure cloud platform (ADLS Gen2, networking, AAD/RBAC), advanced SQL and Python proficiency, and strong experience with CI/CD practices. Requires excellent communication skills, ability to guide and influence engineers, and hands-on knowledge of data pipeline design, data modeling, and governance best practices.
Qualifications: 7+ years of data engineering or platform engineering experience with 3+ years in a leadership capacity (technical lead, player-coach, or team lead role). Strong hands-on expertise with Databricks and Azure, advanced SQL and Python skills, and demonstrated ability to design and operate scalable data systems.
