Role Snapshot
Associate Editor at Tor Publishing Group responsible for acquiring and editing 5-8 science fiction and fantasy titles annually while collaborating with authors, agents, and internal teams to ensure successful publication.
Key Responsibilities: Acquire and evaluate manuscripts, build relationships with literary agents, present books for acquisition with competitive analysis and P&L projections, negotiate deal terms, provide editorial feedback, and create promotional copy. Coordinate with production, design, marketing, and publicity departments to shepherd titles through publication.
Skills & Tools: Strong communication and writing skills for internal and external materials, ability to manage professional relationships with tact and diplomacy, effective presentation abilities, time management and organizational skills, and market awareness within science fiction and fantasy genres.
Qualifications: 3+ years of editorial experience including acquisition responsibilities, knowledge of publishing industry timelines and processes, and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
Location: United States
Compensation: $60K–$65K/yr
