Job Description

The Social Media Coordinator for Recruitment Strategy, under the direction of the Manager of Digital Strategy, develops and implements social media strategies that support East Carolina University’s recruitment, enrollment, brand awareness and audience engagement goals.

The position leads content planning, creation and audience engagement for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and university leadership social media accounts across Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Threads, YouTube and Bluesky, which have a combined audience of more than 34,250 followers.

The Social Media Coordinator for Recruitment Strategy position requires strong initiative, attention to detail, and independent work. This role is part of a three-person team that works closely and collaboratively to align university priorities (mission, brand, enrollment and recruitment needs), and content strategy. In addition to this role and the Manager of Digital Strategy, the team includes the Social Media Coordinator for Strategy and Standards.

The Social Media Coordinator for Recruitment Strategy is a key part of the team that defines and evolves ECU’s online presence, working to increase visibility with target audiences while leveraging digital strategies to enhance university recruitment, enrollment and brand identity. The Social Media Coordinator for Recruitment Strategy:

40% Social Media Enrollment Marketing Strategy

• Leads recruitment-focused social media strategy and content development, translating university priorities into high-impact storytelling through audience research, content planning, creative direction, production and postproduction.
• Uses news stories, photographs, videos, graphics and other tools to advance the university’s mission — including student success, public service and regional transformation — and showcase student life, campus resources, academic opportunities, etc. in a dynamic and engaging manner.
• Utilizes social media management, analytics and listening platforms to optimize content performance, measure campaign effectiveness and support recruitment, enrollment and engagement goals.
• Collaborates with university partners to identify and promote stories, initiatives and campaigns that advance recruitment, enrollment, student success and institutional priorities.
• Independently plans, captures and edits social media content that intentionally resonates with key audiences and showcases ECU from the perspective of a current student.

30% Creator Program Management

• Leads the university’s social media creator program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, mentorship, content planning, performance evaluation and day-to-day supervision of student creators who develop content supporting recruitment, enrollment and brand awareness efforts with help from the Manager of Digital Strategy and Social Media Coordinator for Strategy and Standards.

20% University Content Strategy/Creation

• Manages ECU’s online reputation by monitoring and reporting/responding to mentions when necessary, through real-time alerts as they pertain to admissions.
• Monitors social media trends to identify and pursue opportunities to explore emerging social media platforms and technology with the goal of engaging prospective students and their decision influencers (parents, teachers, guidance counselors, etc.)
• Works with ECU’s video team to conceptualize new ideas, trends and audios for social media videos.
• Defines and nurtures university brand, voice and personality for each platform to most effectively connect with individual audiences.
• Serves as an institutional representative for online and in-person inquiries, providing professional, timely, and service-oriented customer service across digital and in-person channels.
• Collaborates with university partners to identify and promote stories, initiatives and campaigns that advance recruitment, enrollment, student success and institutional priorities.
• Directly supports the efforts of the Chancellor’s Division, ECU News Services, University Marketing and ECU Admissions, providing social media strategy through advising and written plans.

10% Governance and Policy Support

• Assists with university-wide social media governance efforts, including account registration, account approvals, account audits, directory maintenance and monitoring compliance with university policies, accessibility requirements and brand standards.
• Serves on campus committees as a social media advisor as needed.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
