Summary

Join McGraw Hill's Enterprise AI Team as a Senior Data Scientist to apply generative AI expertise and drive impactful business outcomes in the education sector. You will lead AI projects independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams to create world-class educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities: Plan, execute, and report on generative AI projects independently while performing research, analysis, and modeling for key stakeholders. Collaborate with colleagues across Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience functions, and provide guidance to junior colleagues.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in Python, deep understanding of large language models (LLMs), and hands-on experience with LLM orchestration frameworks such as LangChain and LlamaIndex. Strong technical communication, collaboration skills, and ability to create scalable production-level code.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in AI, Data Science, or related field with 3+ years of applicable work experience post-doctorate. Demonstrated track record of independently planning and executing AI projects to deliver business value with deep understanding of generative AI principles.

Your impact on the team

As a Senior Data Scientist on the Enterprise AI team, your primary focus will be on applying generative AI to achieve significant business outcomes for McGraw Hill. You will join a broader team of data scientists, AI researchers, software developers, and psychometricians who provide technical and scientific leadership for some of our most important strategic efforts companywide. You will help this team deliver cutting-edge data science and/or Artificial Intelligence (DS/AI) solutions, and you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions like Product, Engineering, Learning Design, and User Experience to help McGraw Hill create and deliver world-class educational experiences.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What can you expect from the position?

  • Plan, execute, and report on generative AI projects of diverse scope independently.
  • Perform research, analysis, and modeling, and present findings to key stakeholders.
  • Check in with your manager weekly about project progress.
  • Propose solutions to business problems by tailoring DS/AI concepts/tools/techniques.
  • Learn how to balance multiple projects and revise project plans as circumstances change.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other functions to support the creation of compelling learning experiences.
  • Support and guide junior colleagues.

What can you bring to the role?

  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent) in AI, Data Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of applicable work experience after doctorate
  • Track record of independently planning, executing, and reporting on AI projects of diverse scope to deliver business value
  • Demonstrated ability to apply DS/AI knowledge to independently define and resolve problems, including when there is limited information and precedent
  • Deep understanding of large language model (LLM) principles
  • Recent focus on generative AI including hands-on experience with applying LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex)
  • Passion for technology and commitment to staying current on generative AI advancements
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Affinity for education
  • Strong technical communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to create scalable and efficient production-level code

The pay range for this position is between $140,975 - $170,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
