Editorial Operations Associate

Job Overview: 

The Editorial Operations Associate is integral to the editorial department, connecting the team with other work groups and staying on top of the many details required to keep the department workflow moving and the website, app, and cross-org teams updated.

The Editorial Operations Associate serves as the department's "living index" of the content library for family-facing advice, ratings, and recommendations, functioning as the point person for what's covered by the Common Sense Media editorial team. They also serve as the point person on the editorial team for requests from other departments in the organization.

The Editorial Operations Associate is responsible for a variety of site maintenance tasks, which are all part of keeping the Common Sense Media site and app fresh, timely, and accurate. Excellent communication skills, creative content packaging skills, knowledge of entertainment and digital media, and impeccable organizational skills will be key to success in this fun and exciting position.

Reports to: Editorial Director, Head of Ratings & Reviews

Salary: $22.00–$30.00 per hour

Type: Full-time, nonexempt

What You'll Do:

Content & Database Management

  • Prioritize and co-develop featured content (including curated lists, review/article updates, and more) based on SEO recommendations/guidelines, site/app traffic patterns, and organizational priorities and goals
  • Provide recommendations for weekly newsletter selections, in coordination with Marketing and Communications teams
  • Identify and prioritize targeted content to highlight and distribute on other channels, including social media, comms pitches, research reports, etc.
  • Stay up to speed on what's trending in kids' media and on media platforms
  • Support team leads in managing database of content-related requests and partner-related projects
  • Perform site/app maintenance tasks (ensuring backend data on reviews is accurate, images on reviews meet internal standards, partner integrations are happening smoothly, inputting updated reviews, etc.), coordinating with the product team as necessary
  • Maintain AI risk assessment database/library (tracking status/progress of all assessments and updates needed)
  • Handle developer outreach/coordination for AI risk assessments on behalf of the team lead

Cross-Team Coordination

  • Evaluate site/app traffic and other data to assist in developing new content and coverage ideation; share traffic trends as needed/requested
  • Support the editorial team with general planning tasks, including tracking team expenses, handling details of offsite planning, etc. 
  • Manage new editorial projects through tracking deliverables, keeping stakeholders accountable, record-keeping, and offering suggestions/feedback
  • Help update and maintain the editorial calendar

Publication, Distribution, and Administrative Support 

  • Post reviews on outward-facing sites (Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB)
  • Prioritize and create Coming Soon pages, as directed by the editorial director
  • Develop effective systems management to support efficient communication across the org
  • Manage AI risk assessment publication workflow and scheduling
  • Coordinate publication and distribution of AI assessments across channels (website, newsletters, social media) with marketing and coms
  • Handle certain technical aspects of AI risk assessment publishing (formatting, basic SEO)
  • Provide administrative support for the Harvey Anderson Memorial fellowship program

  • Familiarity with Concur or similar finance management systems
  • Familiarity with AirTable or similar data-tracking platform
  • Proven ability to be nimble in a fast-paced publishing environment 
  • Experience with data analytics and SEO
  • Very strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
