CHILDREN’S FUNDING PROJECT (www.childrensfundingproject.org) is a nonprofit social impact organization that helps communities, states, and Native Nations expand equitable opportunities for children and youth through strategic public financing. Through our hands-on technical assistance and collection of resources, we help advocates, policymakers, public agencies, Tribal Nations, and funders identify and align existing funding, generate new revenue, and implement strategies to administer funds in ways that maximize their impact. FUNDING THE NEXT GENERATION (www.fundingthenextgeneration.org) is Children’s Funding Project’s California division. FNG’s mission is to increase dedicated funding for children and youth in local jurisdictions (specifically cities and counties) throughout California, with a focus on using the ballot to create the funds. Inspired by California’s first and largest Children and Youth Fund in San Francisco through campaigns led by FNG’s Founder and current Director, FNG builds the capacity of city and county coalitions and leaders to work in the political area, works to build a movement to advance budget equity for children and youth in California, and continues to develop the theory and educational materials to help guide that movement.

ABOUT THE POSITION: Children’s Funding Project is seeking an Associate Director to assist FNG’s Director in all aspects of FNG’s engagement across California. The Associate Director will assist in the planning and implementation of the organization’s movement building, technical assistance, organizing, policy, and advocacy work in California. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a passion for advocacy. Established connections with strategic allies in California and experience with youth and/or parent organizing are highly valued in this role. This full-time, exempt position reports to FNG’s Director. In-state travel and residency are required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Program CoordinationAssist in the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of FNG’s advocacy programs and initiatives for California’s children and youth.
Support the development, coordination, and ongoing learning of FNG’s statewide networks of city and county coalitions/leaders.
Oversee the work of and deliverables produced by FNG’s advocacy and technical assistance consultants.
Engage in ongoing learning about California’s state and local political, electoral, and legal landscape impacting local public investments for children and youth.
Training & Technical AssistanceDesign, organize, and facilitate virtual and in-person trainings and convenings for FNG stakeholders and partners throughout California.
Provide technical assistance and other support to coalitions and leaders developing local budget policy and strategy using the ballot and other means to increase funding for children and youth.
Identify opportunities to advance local efforts via use of strategic public financing methods and tools, including but not limited to fiscal mapping, cost modeling, and sourcing additional funding.
Partner ManagementMaintain and deepen relationships with key stakeholders and allies, including community organizations that address children’s issues, unions, grassroots organizers, government agencies, children and youth policy leaders, civic leaders, elected officials, and donors.

Fundraising SupportSupport fundraising efforts via grant writing, donor relations management, and event planning.

We are seeking an individual who possesses the following skills, experience, and qualities:

EssentialFive (5) years of professional or lived experience with advocacy organizations, systems, and/or policies that serve children, youth, and families, in areas such as drafting legislation, organizing voter outreach, forming issue-oriented coalitions, and budget advocacy, as well as experiencing the impacts of the maldistribution of public resources for children and youth
Strong leadership, interpersonal and management skills and enthusiasm about FNG’s mission.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strategic thinker with a proactive approach.

PreferredBachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, sociology, ethnic studies, government, public administration, non-profit management, or a related field.
Excitement about ballot measures, children and youth policy and landscape, and the political process in California.
Experience in fundraising and grant writing.
Proficiency in Google Suite and social media platforms.

LOCATION: Remote with ability to travel. Associate Director must reside within the state of California.

STARTING COMPENSATION: This position falls into the associate director level of our salary structure. Starting compensation will be between $90,000 and $100,000, commensurate with skills, experience, and internal equity.
