About the Opportunity
Ellucian’s IT Operations is seeking a talented Senior Platform Engineer to join our team! As a Senior Platform Engineer you will be responsible for Designing, implementing, and administrating mission-critical infrastructure, including private cloud environments and on-premises virtual and physical with a focus on OpenStack and KVM hypervisor. We are looking for a motivated contributor with strong skills in writing automation scripts using Shell Script, Python, or similar languages.
Where you will make an impact
- Design, implement and administrate mission-critical infrastructure, including both cloud environments and on-premises virtual and physical with a focus on OpenStack, Proxmox, and KVM hypervisor.
- Use best practices, security principles, and fault-tolerant/resilient architecture to deliver secure and reliable solutions.
- Configure, manage, and maintain Enterprise-Class Data Center Hardware to include Cisco UCS servers and blade chassis.
- Support and automate tasks using various methodologies, tools, and languages.
- Monitor and manage infrastructure using Elastic, Nagios, SNMP, and other tooling.
- Assist in policy and process creation/expansion, best practice, documentation, Support, architecture, and administration of development tools.
- Deploy, configure, and administrate Linux and Windows based operating systems to support various applications.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends to deal with outages and maintenance windows.
- Be part of a team. Share knowledge. Mentor. Be open, honest, and have a positive attitude.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with teammates to provide reliable 24 x 7 x 365 support to production systems.
- Any other duties as assigned.
What you will bring
- 5 - 7 years of experience in an IT corporate environment, with at least 5 years as an enterprise-level Systems Administrator or better.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Demonstrated experience deploying and upgrading OpenStack with new releases to keep up to date, make use of new features & bug fixes.
- Manage & monitor OpenStack compute resources and services. Work with users to gathering business requirements for capacity planning.
- Expert-level Linux OS troubleshooting. Ability to troubleshoot issues with the underlying components of OpenStack when investigating incidents or testing new features and projects.
- Ability to write automation scripts using Shell Script, Python, or similar languages & Ansible playbooks.
- Internally motivated. The candidate should have the desire and ability to own problems and solve them.
- Ability to document complex systems to various levels of support/administration.
- Deep understanding and experience troubleshooting and resolving complex system issues.
- Multi-year experience maintaining secure production, lab, and development environments.
- Ability to plan, hold yourself and others accountable, and follow up with others.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be able to clearly communicate status and urgency.
- Ability to understand priorities and escalate accordingly.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Team player with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
