What you will do
The Technical Product Manager is a strategic, individual contributor role within the NWEA division of HMH, specifically the Curriculum Connections Team. Primary responsibilities include driving product initiatives through exploration activities and ensuring product discovery and delivery outcomes align with business priorities in support of HMH’s strategy and mission. This includes converting product vision into product roadmap, leading solution exploration activities, developing product release plans, supporting product feature design, clarifying product development priorities, and collaborating with stakeholders across product and technology groups to achieve desired business outcomes.
Responsibilities
Solution Discovery & Delivery:
- Define product problems and opportunities with measurable outcomes.
- Develop high-level solutions, decompose problems, identify dependencies and risks, create release plans, and provide requirements to development teams.
- Deliver key product initiatives that align with business priorities, support the mission, and meet profitability and user satisfaction goals.
- Work with Product, Architecture, User Experience Research, Design, Learning Sciences, and Engineering teams to solve market problems and deliver product roadmaps.
- Ensure comprehensive market readiness with Product Managers and stakeholders.
- Understand the impact on students, teachers, parents/caregivers, and promote inclusive design practices.
- Maintain and share a clear vision, strategy, roadmap, and backlog with other Product Managers and Product Owners.
- Assist Product Managers with RFP responses, incident management, sales support, and review of product documentation/training materials.
- Serve as a liaison between product and technology teams and manage vendor relationships for efficient product development and support.
Understand Market Needs & Gather Feedback:
- Partner with business product managers to refine product vision, strategy, and roadmap based on market needs and business objectives.
- Understand user needs through customer engagement and research.
- Assess technology trends and competitive products to guide strategy.
- Use research findings, customer feedback, and product usage data to evaluate product releases and inform future roadmaps.
- Gather early customer feedback and support large-scale launches.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
- Promote communication across product, technology teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Align expectations, negotiate tradeoffs, and balance constraints to achieve product objectives.
- Assist in creating and maintaining product value propositions, market requirements, and goals.
- Ensure products meet market needs and communicate product vision, strategy, and planning outcomes.
What you will need
- Minimum three years’ experience in product management, product development, business analysis or related discipline, with at least one year in product management related to the area of emphasis.
- Demonstrated success in developing and launching complex technology products.
- Experience working with Agile Development process and Human Centered Design practices.
- Bachelor's degree in education, technical or business discipline; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- Proven ability to lead, influence cross-functional teams and find a path to success in a complex fast changing environment.
- Skilled at independently solving complex problems with minimal guidance.
- Results-driven, making timely decisions and collaborating well across product and technology groups.
- Capable of balancing project scope, time, cost, risk, and quality, while managing multiple projects based on organizational priorities.
- Communicates ideas clearly and concisely to business sponsors, stakeholders, and technical teams, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability in creating and coordinating the following:
- Solution discovery and Roadmap planning.
- High-level scope and requirements documents, user personas, and use cases.
- Launching new and established software products and services
- Establish and report on product KPI’s and metrics.
- Ability to travel domestically as required, up to twenty-five percent.
Salary Range: 105k - 120k annually.
