Position Purpose

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and data-driven Temporary Social Media Strategist to support our digital engagement efforts across national and local platforms. This role will play a key part in executing social media strategy, content planning, publishing, community management, and performance tracking during a critical time in our annual campaign calendar.

Location: Continental United States (100% Remote)

FLSA Status: Full Time, Exempt

Duration: 3 Month Temporary Assignment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Content Gathering + Calendar Management

  • Regularly source and organize content from across our network—agency feeds, partner activations, national events, and more
  • Manage the national Asana social calendar with consistent updates, content shifts, and weekly flow adjustments
  • Maintain a posting cadence of 3–4x/week per platform, with flexibility based on campaign needs
  • Ensure proper tagging of partners, agencies, and individuals, and adjust content formatting per platform norms

Requests + Last-Minute Needs

  • Track and prioritize all incoming content requests (comms, fundraising, partnerships, national campaigns) via Asana
  • Evaluate calendar content weekly to distinguish between time-sensitive and evergreen posts
  • Maintain a clear content pipeline and ensure nothing falls through the cracks

Content Development & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with AmeriCorps Vista on content drafting (typically 2 assigned posts per week), reviewing drafts 1.5 weeks out
  • Finalize copy and creative in Sprout Social, making necessary adjustments for timeliness or tone
  • Assign and brief posts in Asana with clear context, deadlines, and asset needs

Sprout Social Scheduling + Monitoring

  • Own daily operations in Sprout Social, including:
  • Scheduling all social post
  • Monitoring engagement and comment sentiment
  • Reporting on weekly and monthly metrics
  • Flag unusual activity and help execute BBBSA’s crisis response protocol when needed

Weekly Social Media Roundup

  • Prepare and send a weekly roundup (typically Mondays/Tuesdays) for internal alignment
  • Collaborate with the comms team to finalize the upcoming week’s plan by Wednesday

Campaign & Moment Execution

  • Lead social strategy and execution for major campaigns and seasonal moments (e.g., National Mentoring Month, EOY Giving, Annual Conference)
  • Pitch creative concepts, write copy, manage asset development (with design support), and coordinate review cycles
  • Balance quick-turn needs with long-term calendar planning

Engagement + Community Management

  • Monitor comments and DMs daily, respond when appropriate, and escalate sensitive issues
  • Ensure tone, voice, and brand alignment across all social interactions

Reporting & Optimization

  • Collaborate with AmeriCorps Vista on monthly performance reports, highlighting trends, insights, and optimization opportunities
  • Recommend new content types, formats, or posting strategies based on what’s working

Education & Related Work Experience

Years and Scope of Related Work Experience: 2–4 years of professional experience managing social media accounts, ideally for a nonprofit or purpose-driven brand.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational skills and experience managing content calendars and requests in tools like Asana; Proficiency with Sprout Social (or similar platforms) for scheduling, reporting, and engagement tracking; Excellent copywriting and storytelling skills; Ability to prioritize, pivot, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment; Experience managing social campaigns across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Threads; Background in nonprofit communications or youth-serving organizations; Understanding of current digital trends, meme culture, and mission-aligned brand tone; Design experience or ability to brief design teams effectively; Prior experience supporting crisis comms and/or community management best practices.
