MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for an Fulfillment Planning & Systems Analyst in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America.

Position Summary:

We’re seeking a highly analytical and organized Fulfillment Planning & Systems Analyst to support the daily execution and ongoing improvement of our warehouse operations. This role bridges the gap between system functionality and operational execution—ensuring orders are planned, processed, and fulfilled efficiently and accurately.

The ideal candidate will coordinate daily order release planning, proactively troubleshoot issues in our Warehouse Management System (WMS), and identify root causes of order and invoice flow disruptions. You’ll work cross-functionally with warehouse operations, IT, customer service, and traffic to resolve problems, implement fixes, and improve overall process flow.

What You’ll Do

  1. Daily Operations & Planning
  • Build and maintain daily warehouse order release plans, coordinating when and how orders are dropped into the system for picking
  • Monitor order throughput to ensure shipments align with delivery deadlines and operational capacity
  • Adjust planning dynamically based on priority orders, volume fluctuations, system constraints and team capacity across the 24 hour operating cycle
  1. System Issue Identification & Troubleshooting
  • Investigate issues where parcels are missing from trucks, orders aren’t processed, or invoices fail to generate
  • Track and analyze data in the WMS and related systems to identify operational or system-level breakdowns
  • Serve as the first line of triage for warehouse-related system issues and escalate as needed
  1. Process & System Improvement
  • Document recurring issues, define root causes, and recommend short- and long-term solutions
  • Collaborate with IT and software vendors to test and implement fixes or improvements in the WMS
  • Develop standard operating procedures and training guides for relevant system and planning tasks
  1. Cross-Functional Communication
  • Act as the liaison between warehouse operations, IT, finance, and customer service to ensure smooth execution of end-to-end order fulfillment
  • Communicate system status, issue resolutions, and planning updates clearly and promptly

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 2–5 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution, or logistics environment
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); experience with [insert specific system, if relevant] a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to interpret operational data and make process-based decisions
  • Comfortable collaborating across departments and communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
