Sourcebooks is offering a 10-week paid internship in their Editorial Department, focusing on children’s books, where interns will gain hands-on editorial experience while exploring market trends and collaborating on book projects.

Responsibilities: Interns will collaborate with the editorial team to brainstorm and develop ideas for children's books, conduct market research, draft communications, edit manuscripts, and manage projects.

Skills: Ideal candidates should have strong communication skills, attention to detail, creativity, and a keen interest in children's literature and publishing.

Qualifications: Candidates should be current college juniors, seniors, or recent graduates, and must be available to work 24 hours per week, in person, during the internship period.

Location: This internship is based in Naperville, IL, and requires in-person attendance for three days a week.

Compensation: $15 - $15 / Hourly

During the Editorial-Wonderland internship, you will learn about the editorial team and how the role functions within Sourcebooks. You will gain an understanding of where a book comes from and how it develops – from an idea to the hands of a consumer. Throughout this internship, you will practice:

Collaborating with editorial team members to brainstorm, acquire, develop, pitch, and refine ideas for board books, picture books, and/or middle grade
Researching market trends and using data to support book projects and effective book positioning
Drafting book deal memos and communications with potential author partners
Working closely with production teams to ensure the smooth execution of book projects
Editing, proofreading, performing route reviews, and project management
Creatively launching a book so the concept is understood and supported by other teams who will help market and sell the book
Staying informed about current trends and developments in children’s books, as well as emerging technologies and platforms in the publishing industry

Internship Program Details:

Sourcebooks offers a 10- week PAID, IN-PERSON internship at our Naperville, IL office in our Editorial Department with Wonderland (a children's imprint). Interns will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience at a growing book publisher. You will learn how to use different communications styles and strategies to share information with different audiences both within and outside the company. A key component of this internship is storytelling: we’re communicating the Sourcebooks story, and our Books Change Lives mission, every day. You’ll learn how to refine a message, speak to values, engage an audience, and more!

We're looking for book lovers who are excited to experiment, learn new things, and make a difference in the world of books.

Qualifications:

Possess a strong interest in children’s books
Be agile and have the ability to balance both short- and long-term projects
Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with team members
Be a clear communicator, is highly detail-oriented, organized, and creative
Demonstrate an active enthusiasm for publishing: Be inquisitive, curious, thoughtful, and ready to learn!

Requirements & Eligibility:

• Current college junior, senior or recent graduate

• Able to work 24 hours/week throughout the program in person 3 days/week in Naperville, IL

• Available and commit to the program working June 10, 2025, to August 14, 2025

• Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program

• Must be over the age of 18
