Summary

Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Iowa State University's network infrastructure while managing a team of network engineers and architects. This role is responsible for ensuring efficient network operations, implementing new technologies, and managing vendor relationships and project budgets.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure; manage and supervise a team of network engineers; develop and maintain vendor relationships and negotiate contracts; ensure network projects are completed on time and within budget; conduct research and recommend IT equipment and applications.
Skills & Tools: Team leadership and management experience; network infrastructure design and implementation expertise; vendor management and contract negotiation abilities; knowledge of IT systems architectures and network systems; strategic planning and budget management skills.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 5 years of related network infrastructure or IT experience. Experience leading network teams and previous hands-on work in the field preferred.

Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $95,000 – $130,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

Iowa State University is excited to announce an opening for our Network Infrastructure Manager within Information Technology Services. This role is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead a team of exceptional professionals dedicated to ISU’s mission.

As the Network Infrastructure Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of our network infrastructure. This includes managing a team of network engineers and architects, ensuring that all network systems are operating efficiently, and implementing new technologies to improve our network capabilities. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that all network-related projects are completed on time and within budget.

Example of Duties

• Develops, modifies, and implements short and long-term solutions to information technology needs through new and existing applications, systems architectures, network systems, and applications infrastructure.

• Implements and maintains the policies and goals for the IT department.

• Conducts research and recommends the selection of IT equipment, applications, and supplies.

• Reviews system requirements and business processes.

Level Guidelines

• Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit

• Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports

• Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals

• Supervises a small department or work team

• Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised

• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management

• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
