Role Snapshot

The Manager, National Youth Voice leads the Big Brothers Big Sisters National Youth Leadership Council, managing youth engagement, development, and activities that amplify youth voice across the organization's 230+ agency network. This two-year fellowship position reports to the Director of Program Development and Scale and plays a key role in elevating youth perspectives in program design and organizational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: Manages recruitment, selection, and ongoing support for Youth Council members; coordinates virtual and in-person activities and logistical details; develops service-learning projects and facilitates listening sessions. Compiles progress reports, maintains program records, evaluates impact with the data team, and serves as primary contact for Youth Council members participating in events, speaking engagements, and advocacy initiatives.
Skills & Tools: Strong program management, youth development, and project coordination abilities; excellent written and verbal communication for stakeholder engagement; demonstrated capacity to build relationships with diverse youth populations and organizational leaders. Data tracking, event management, and ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams required.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred with experience in youth development, program management, or nonprofit work; experience building relationships with youth and young adults in educational or mentorship settings is valuable. Familiarity with nonprofit operations and network management a plus.

Job Description

Position Purpose

Through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) Professional Fellowship Program* the Manager, National Youth Voice is responsible for managing activities, engagement and outcomes for the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) National Youth Leadership Council (Youth Council) and related activities that amplify youth voice nationally and across our BBBS network of 230+ agencies. Manager, National Youth Voice is a direct report of the Director, Program Development and Scale, with future reporting aligned to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America's (BBBSA) College and Career Success focus. As a member of the BBBSA team, the Manager, National Youth Voice, is a key driver of activities that support the national office in elevating youth voice in program design and a variety of related projects across the BBBS network.

The Manager, National Youth Voice will work collaboratively within the Program & Impact team and across BBBSA with Agency Growth, JEDI (Justice Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), Youth Safety & Wellbeing and other teams.

*This position is aligned to BBBSA’s Professional Fellowship Program, an initiative that engages talented professionals in two (2)-year career opportunities. The candidate identified for this role will be a full-time, benefits eligible employee, fully immersed as a team member and accountable to all BBBSA employee policies and organizational practices. This position is funded for a period of two (2) years from their effective date of hire. Continuation of the position after two (2) years is based on business need for the role and continued funding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

National Youth Council

  • Provide development, administrative management, guidance and coordination of the National Youth Council
  • Manage the processes for recruitment, application, and selection of Youth Council members
  • Serve as a liaison to agency leaders across the BBBS network to build awareness, facilitate recruitment processes, select and offer ongoing support to Youth Council members
  • Establish and maintain strong positive developmentally appropriate relationships with youth and young adults in alignment with the youth safety policies and best practices of BBBSA
  • Coordinate all logistical details and facilitate virtual and in-person activities related to the National Youth Council (Youth Council)
  • Develop service-learning projects and/or programs for youth to be actively involved in, make sure projects or programs are well running, and goals are met. Works closely with the Director of College and Career Success and other stakeholders.
  • Assist youth in designing and implementing listening sessions and other events that engage a cross-section of youth.
  • Prepare fact sheets, overviews and other documents that inform stakeholders of the purpose and activities of the Youth Council

Tracking and Reporting

  • Compile summary information on progress, provide briefings and other updates to team members and stakeholders within BBBSA and as directed, across the network and with other key partners
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate program notes, records and related information about Youth Council
  • Work in partnership with the data and insights group and others in the Program and Impact department to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of the Youth Council and related youth voice efforts.

Events

  • Manage all planning, logistics, staff, vendors and agency relationships for Youth Council members and other events related to youth voice.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Youth Council members as they participate in activation events, speaking engagements, fundraising, advocacy or other BBBSA youth voice events to ensure they receive timely, relevant information in advance of all activities; and provide support for logistics and individual youth council member preparation for their roles.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships between other departments within BBBSA particularly its Communications and Resource Development teams in all matter related to engaging Youth Council members as influencers, thought leaders, or otherwise, and alongside the CEO and BBBSA Board of Directors

Youth Voice Activities

  • Works in partnership with various BBBSA departments to design and vet activities that include youth to ensure youth protection standards and best practices are maintained
  • Coordinate and support convenings that elevate youth voice, including leadership trainings and workshops during the National Conference and listening sessions that specifically engage a diverse set of youth from across the BBBSA network
  • Design and organize panel discussions that elevate youth voice across the network, incorporate youth as panelists where appropriate in BBBSA workshops and thought leadership opportunities, and build awareness of the needs, concerns and aspirations of youth and young adults (BBBS Littles)
  • Attend and support internal and external convenings, learning circles and other partnership events that increase awareness of and build our network’s capacity to incorporate youth voice.
  • Manages related and other duties as assigned in support of department and business needs

Education & Related Work Experience

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

Years of Related Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and/or training in project management, youth development programs, youth leadership, or youth social-emotional development, or related areas

Skills and Knowledge: Experience managing programs that empower youth and young adults as co-designers and advocates; Experience with managing and facilitating youth-led experiences (webinars, listening sessions processes, etc.) and maintaining alignment with organizational priorities and deadlines; Consistent record in managing complex issues with various stakeholders to desired outcome; Ability to be solutions-focused and proactive in managing complex projects and sensitive stakeholder relationships; Demonstrates initiative, creativity and innovation; Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to develop trusting relationships in a remote environment; Highly organized in approach, with ability to set and manage priorities; Advanced proficiency in desktop software, including Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google docs; Ability to work independently and remotely in achieving results consistently on deadline; Excellent team working skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally; Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; Excellent coaching and facilitator skills.
