We are seeking a Brazilian Portuguese language tagger/translator to support our interactive reader tool, working remotely on a part-time contract basis.

Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include basic translation and identifying grammatical features in Brazilian Portuguese, as well as attending limited meetings for feedback.

Skills: Candidates should be native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese, possess advanced English proficiency, and be able to identify grammatical features with guidelines. Familiarity with Google Suite is also required.

Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include experience teaching Brazilian Portuguese, working on natural language processing tagging projects, and a degree in related fields.

Location: Remote Global

Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation ranges for this position are between $20 - $35 per hour.

We are looking for enthusiastic Portuguese teachers or translators to help us improve our interactive reader tool. This tool helps teach Brazilian Portuguese through reading by presenting language learners with richly annotated, culturally-relevant, leveled passages.

In this remote contract position you’ll help us build the tool we will use to develop new Brazilian Portuguese passages by automating some of our grammar tagging. Your work will mostly involve basic translation and some identification of grammatical features (e.g. part of speech, person/number/gender, etc.) with the aid of our guidelines. We will also request that you attend a limited number of meetings to provide feedback and discuss the results with the rest of the team.

We expect this phase of the project to involve 5-10 hours of work per week for a period of about 3 months from the start date. However, this project will have further phases in future, and we would love to recruit someone who would be interested in doing similar contracting work with the Mango interactive reader down the road.

Position requirements

Native speaker/writer of the Brazilian dialect of Portuguese
Advanced proficiency in English
Able to identify grammatical features like part of speech, person/number/gender, tense, etc. in Brazilian Portuguese with the help of some guidelines.
Good familiarity with google suite (sheets, docs, filesharing, etc.)
Able to attend occasional meetings on Google Meets during EST work hours
Ability to learn new technologies

Other Desirable Qualities

Experience teaching Brazilian Portuguese to English speakers
Experience working on natural language processing tagging projects or something similar.
Degree in language teaching, applied linguistics, or similar
Writing or editing experience in Brazilian Portuguese or in another language
Experience or expertise in teaching writing or reading
