Summary of Position: The Office of Academic Innovation seeks a visionary and experienced leader to serve as the inaugural Director of the Future Learning Lab (FLL). The FLL is a dynamic new initiative dedicated to exploring and integrating emerging technologies-such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and immersive-reality-into online and hybrid learning environments to improve student recruitment, engagement, and retention initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead cutting-edge action research and interdisciplinary collaboration while advancing ethical, effective applications of technology in education. The Director will be responsible for shaping the strategic vision of the lab, managing its staff and operations, fostering partnerships, and driving innovative curriculum and research development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for the FLL that aligns with IWU-N&G's commitment to academic innovation
- Identify trends and opportunities in emerging technologies that can positively impact student learning and success
- Champion the ethical use of technology in education, establishing the FLL as a model for responsible innovation
- Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the lab, including budgeting, resource allocation, and project management
- Supervise lab staff, including Future Learning Specialist, Future Learning Experience Designer, and Technical Support Staff
- Ensure the lab's infrastructure is equipped with the necessary tools, technologies, and resources for cutting-edge research and innovation
- Professional Development and Community Engagement
- Develop and lead workshops, training, and resources for faculty and staff on emerging technologies
- Represent the FLL at conferences, webinars, and industry events, sharing best practices and advancements
- Build a network within the educational technology community, positioning [University Name] as a leader in the responsible application of technology in education
- Research and Development
- Lead interdisciplinary action research initiatives focused on future learning technologies (e.g., AI, blockchain, immersive reality, etc.)
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and external partners to develop innovative, technology-driven approaches to online learning
- Secure research grants and funding, overseeing proposal development and project implementation
- Curriculum Innovation
- Guide the development of curricula that integrate advanced technologies, ensuring alignment with industry trends and future workforce needs
- Support faculty in designing and implementing future, technology-enhanced learning experiences
- Promote the effective and ethical use of technology in curriculum design, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and student-centered approaches
- Collaboration and Partnerships
- Establish and maintain partnerships with industry, educational institutions, and technology leaders to foster collaboration and innovation
- Engage faculty, staff, and external experts in FLL initiatives, promoting interdisciplinary research and idea exchange
- Serve as the primary liaison between the FLL, university leadership, and external stakeholders

Education
- Master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field preferred; Ph.D. is an asset. Candidates with extensive, relevant work experience may also be considered in lieu of an advanced degree
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in educational technology, research, and leadership, preferably in higher education
- Proven track record of successful technology project implementation in academic or industry settings, with a focus on improving student outcomes
Experience
- Demonstrated experience in driving innovation within higher education settings, with a focus on student engagement and retention
- Understanding of current trends and challenges in academic technology and pedagogy as they relate to student success
- Experience with emerging technologies, such as AI, blockchain, immersive-reality, and their applications in education
- Experience with AI tools and platforms relevant to higher education, especially those that impact student success
Required Skills
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide diverse teams
- Experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with various academic and administrative units, with an emphasis on enhancing student experiences
